    Hi,
I decided to recover my pavilion 2700 to its original state via hidden partition.
So after reboot I pressed F11 to enter the recovery manager.

When the wizard finished, after performing the first step (formating windows partition), the error 0x40010013000001002 appeared
with only "ok" button. After I pressed "ok" the system restarted but this time there was no windows!!!!

In short, recovery manager only tried to format the partition and NOT reinstalling the OS and softwares. :(

    any idea??

Did you burn the recovery disks? Use these instead

If you did a clean install, the recovery partition is useless because the MBR (Master Boot Record) is altered

I could have told you that. All manufacturer recovery systems are completely useless.

Clear the drive, install Windows properly and make your own system images for backups (using something like DriveImageXML, BootIt NG, Acronis TrueImage, etc.)

I created disks hopefully but right now I have them in hand. I thought recovering from harddisk should be faster than DVDs.

Also, when this annoying problem occurs, I cannot rely on DVDs also. How much they guaranty that DVDs can recover? Also there is no any manual or error explanation from HP....

The last choice is to perform a clean installation... :(

I am now going to use some tools for recovering deleted NTFS partition, Although I have no hope.... :(

Yeah the DVDs are slower, but how much time have you wasted by trying to figure out what went wrong with the recovery partition? Probably a heck of a lot more time than just using the recovery dvds.

You can either reinstall by doing a clean install, or do a factory restore with the recovery dvds.

I have tried to recover the system via 3 DVDs I had taken before the problem. after near 30 minutes, I got exactly the error before!!!!!!!!.

So, neither recovery partition nor recovery DVDs could not fix my problem and now the system is totally dead!

HP total care = HP total DISASTER

It is Pavilion dv2775ee. I have to correct my first post. I run CHKDSK from recovery wizard and there is no error in recovery partition and windows partition.

Maybe you could try the HD manufactures diagnostic tool to eliminate the HD as a possible cause of the trouble.

Yup Seatools is pretty good. Also Western Digital Diagnostic's is pretty good too, and I am pretty sure it works with all drives.

But if you are unable to get into windows at all, then (and if a mod feels like they need to remove this, I understand). There is a BootCD called Hiren's Bootcd. Google it. Has some great software on there. Lots of HD Diagnostic tools, also a program called HDD Regenerator. It will take alot of time, but it sounds like you have some bad sectors, and it will fix it up for you.

You should be able to go into Device Manager and get the hard drive model number. Just copy and paste this into google. Mine was(i replaced it with a WD) a Seagate Momentus drive. I believe most of the newer HP lappys use Seagate.

Or you can just take the 2 screws off the hard drive panel and check the hard drive itself. It goes without saying, that you should definitely have the machine powered off before yanking the hard drive.

    hope this helps

    And the battery out too...

I burned the Recovery DVD's myself, and I've had to use them about 3 or 4 times. They work fine. Takes about 3 hours for a full install... The onboard recovery manager is just a waste. Waste of space mostly... I just make image back ups of my drive every couple weeks now onto an external. Anyway, good luck.

As I said, I have no OS to see the model of HD. If I had, then there were no problem...

What I did, (at this time the system is dead) format the hard disk completely, then install a vista from my friend CD, then entering the serial number on the back of my system and the installing drivers...

    But there are some problems:
1-HP power plan is not available
2-there is no HP quick play and HP quick touch.

I am searching to find them

the conclusion of this thread is: Do not try to recover HP preinstalled windows. Just install windows yourself the activate it with your serial number on the back of system

First, I don't think even HP recovery disk would help. because in my case, after the recovery partition failed, I tried to use DVDs. These DVDs were created just after the first opening of the laptop. So no change were happened. But recovering with DVDs also gave me the same error as recovery partition.

I think it is a software bug inside recovery manager that will happen with every solution. So I think the same bug is also in HP disks....

about the vista, I don't know. my notebook had vista home premium and I have a vista home premium from my friend.

well, i guess i'll just wait for the recovery disc. It's on it's way now ( yeheey ). Furthermore, I checked my HDD status using the HP built in checker and said my HDD have a problem and need to be changed. Then used this seatools and my HDD passed the test. guess it's just the OS .
Keep you guys posted when my recovery disc arrive.''

    Cheers

I have had a similar issue with my HP TX 1120...I've run the HD diagnostic tool in the setup (I believe to be HP's tool) and it comes back with Error #1 -05....

I have not been able to find any reference to this error code anywhere and I don't want to endure the horror of calling HP's Support lines...Does anyone know what this error means? I have not been able to get my system to load windows at all since this started...

Sorry Op for what has happened to you. I think getting fresh recover DVD's from HP would help, but I am not sure. For me, recovery Manager work flawlessly, twice so far, from DVD's burned by Recovery Manager. Funny thing is, the recovery manager does not like my HP dual layer DVD's, so I have to use two DVDs to burn the recovery discs.

Most likely? There was probably a corrupted file in the recovery partition. I'd recommend staying away from the HP recovery, and use Acronis or Ghost for your needs from here on in.

You know... I feel better when I install a fresh windows because now 10GB of my HD isn't occupied! and also there is no trial software that came with original windows!

The problems with fresh install are:
1- when I touch volume buttons, it does not make any sound. It had a click sound in the preinstalled OS. I installed quick touch and the sound are available in control panel but I don't know why it hasn't any sound.

2- I installed quickplay software and it really turn ons the computer when I touch it. The problem is when I am in windows, the button doesn't work! but when I double click the exe file in its directory, it runs!!

3- Although I installed ALL drivers, but there is one unknown device in device manager. I tried to find the driver (I don't know what it is) on the internet with update driver in its properties, but it didn't find anything. I am still searching. I think it is for dock port or HDMI port. any Idea?

I think preinstalled OS has some advantages because HP customized the windows for its purposes.

    any Idea???

3 - The HDMI port is part of the graphics drivers

Can you post a link to an image of your device manager window so we can see what is missing?

    Really interesting... :)
yesterday I used windows update and it found some updates for vista, drivers and applications. Here is the picture of update history is attached.

Then I wanted to print screen the device manager and I found that unknown device is gone!! I wish I had taken the print screen before the update so that I would be able to difference the images. but as you wanted, here is the picture of device manager (attached)

I am not exactly sure but one of the updates (I placed red square near them) maybe was the unknown device.

So it seams that problem #3 is now solved
