I called HP to ask some questions about the dv1000t I have on order. I told the sales rep that I have a dv1000t on order, but that I ordered it from Costco, not from HP.
He answered my questions, then told me to "be careful ordering from Costco". When I asked him why, he said that the HP warranty is ONLY furnished for the 1st owner, and that if I purchase from Costco, HP views Costco as the 1st owner, and the buyer as the 2nd owner, so they won't honour the warranty (which is 1 year, so after the six month warranty Costco gives, buyers would, I'd presume, expect that HP would handle any problems that occur in the next six months)
Costcos site says the following:
"After the six-month return window, all services and technical support will be subject to the remaining manufacturer's warranty, where applicable"
where applicable?
Anyone have thoughts on this? Is HP just trying to get me to purchase directly from them? (I'm not going to, but I am now curious if I will have HP's warranty once Costco's warrant expires)
I've found Costco to be totally honourable, in all of my dealings. Don't have much experience with HP.

Definately call and speak to another rep. That's like saying BestBuy purchased the PC's from HP so BestBuy is the first owner? No way. And ask if there's a way to register the new laptop based on serial #.

yep thats wrong. I ordered my dv8000t through costco and my warrenty works just fine. I'm getting it fixed right now, apperently my battery doesn't lock into place...

I wasn't too worried about it. Sounded like a sales pitch by the HP rep!
I've dealt with Costco numerous times, and they've always been 100% honest and above board!
Nice to hear confirmation, nonetheless.... -
Sounds like an outright LIE by the HP rep saying what he said.
On any product the wholesaler is just that the wholesaler.
The warranty starts when the itme is purchased RETAIL, when the end user purchases the product. -
Hey another thing guys... I have an HP dv8000t on order thru Costco right now...
When I placed the order on the Costco site it gives NO option for purchasing the HP extended warranty, OR the EW with accident protection... So I called HP to ask them about that...
The HP rep said NO problem, the EW could be purchased on an item purchased thru www.Costco.com , OR thru a local Costco store , and even offered to sign me up right then. (I declined because I haven't received the laptop yet.)
He said no problem, once you get the product just give them a call, or go online...
On that EW, I've read on other products such as TV's Electronics, etc that most mfg's allow you to purchase /extend the factory warranty at ANY time IF your since within the orginal warranty period.
HP rep says Costco doesn't have HP warranty???
