    Hi guys...

Just got the box from UPS to ship back to HP...the email says "REMOVE ALL ACCESSORIES"...just want to confirm exactly what that means.

Do I need to send the AC adapter as well or are they fine just getting the laptop with nothing else in the box?

I think they are talking more along the lines of DVDs, headsets, flash cards in the slots. Normally they require your power cord (at least when i used to ship my laptop in for repairs). I hope this helps.

I never shipped my power cord back, unless it was a possible problem. They have all that stuff there. Unless specified by them, only send the laptop and the battery. Make sure you backup your files that you want to save before you send it in, because a lot of the times they reformat and reinstall, and you will lose all your data.

AN HP chat tech just said "you do not need to send any accessories like notebook battery and AC adapter while packing your product for repair"

I find it hard to believe they just want the bare laptop, never considered the battery an "accessory"...think I should send it with battery attached?

[I like how the online techs are chatting with multiple customers at the same time so that even the simplest conversation has 5-6 minute gaps.]

How reliable are these HP repair guys. I would like to send my laptop for heat issues. It is not that much annoying. Temps are ok. It it hot under the left palm. How good they are in fixing these issues.

No, no need for the battery or the power cord unless either of them are defective. I sent mine in Nov for motherboard replacement without any battery or the power cord. The service centers have the necessary cables/batteries for any HP/Compaq laptop. So, no need to send it. Just make sure you have backed up all your data on the HDD and reformat the hard disk(if possible). Also if you have aftermarket RAM, remove that and ship the laptop with the stock memory.

Ah the left hand and the right hand...they never talk!

Had a crash during my chat session with an HP tech. She said the battery wasn't necessary and then we crashed.

Went back on and the next tech said it WAS necessary.

Oh well, better safe than sorry.

I had a hardware problem with mine (cracked hinge), I was told it was OK to remove everything. I took out the battery, mini-remote control and hard drive and it was fixed no problem. Don't send in your hard drive unless that is related to the problem you are having.

It depends on what you meant by 'reliable'. The last couple of times when I sent mine for warranty work, it came back with scuffs and scratches. So my advice is this: send the thing in ONLY if its got major issues and needs work that you can't do yourself.

I had mine sent in and the person I spoke to states specifically not to send the battery or power cord, just the laptop. Yes, take out your aftermarket memory and put back the originals and the original hard drive if you changed it. They don't guarantee you'll receive them back because if they give you a replacement unit it won't contain those. And take a picture of your laptop before sending it in. A friend of mine had a long scratch on the bottom of the screen after he received it. He says the serials and everything match from the originals. He sent back.

ya, unless they tell you to send the ac adapter and battery along, don't. They have enough batteries and ac adapters there.
