The site looks like it hasn't been updated since the dot-com boom era, yet it's advertising Windows 7 in the top right hand corner...

If I didn't know whose site it was, I'd think that this was some small company which probably doesn't do e-commerce and probably only has a website to increase exposure, but seeing how it's actually HP and they want people to buy stuff from here, I'm left wondering just what they were thinking with this amateurish effort.

I mean, how do they actually expect people to have confidence in entering their credit card number into a site that looks like this?

Im not a fan of their website either. Its not as easy to navigate as it was a few years ago.

Its too hard to find out quick information about their laptops. I pretty much had to go to all the retail stores to find quick specifications of laptops. And being HP, they have so many models out that its so hard to keep track of what is new and old stock.

HP updated their site a few months ago. It's not the best looking site (certainly could do without the red "Free Shipping" stars), but it still looks professional.

Model specs are extremely easy to find. Go to hp.com/support, type in your model, and that's about it. HP doesn't have that many models, at least not any more than its competitors.

I meant when comparing between their own models when shopping for a laptop. Its okay if you know what you're looking for.

My model, DV6-2005tx doesnt show up on their support page (although there are other abbreviated models). Maybe I'm a dummy but the support page doesnt show specs.

The info i found when i was buying was a generic DV6 pdf.

How does HP name their laptops from their previous range?

I agree with the OP, the HP website (certainly in the UK) is not exactly the best in terms of ease of use. It also has no ability to configure any of the Pavilion laptops, which seems bizzare. Only available in pre-configured models.

I think the norwegian HP site is easy to browse and looks good without all the "Flash spam". :)

I took some screenshots for comparison.

And here there are no option for customizing your notebook, only preconfigured systems.

They really need to update their laptop configuration system. The extended battery pic is from laptops that were sold 3-4 years ago!

It looks like their Canadian website still retains the older layout. Take a look at www.hp.com and the U.S. Home & Home Office website. It's a lot nicer. They recently updated it again in the last month or so. The Small & Medium Business still retains the older layout.

Yeah, the US site is nice, but the Canadian site is several redesigns behind and so crippled that you can't even customize a PC on it... And from the sounds of it, their other global sites also have the same problems.

Australia gets the flash spam one as well which looks good if you want read about all the fancy stuff that HP laptops have. Its more marketing than anything else.

But when it comes to searching for models to buy, it only has a generic series pdf brochure. If you dont know the model number, you wont be able to find specs.

So basically, there's 3 versions: the old, ugly site, the flash spam site, and the US site.

And yeah, I noticed that out of the major OEMs, generally speaking HP has the worst site (outside of the US).

I'm still perplexed as to how HP is the #1 worldwide OEM, especially when you factor in how Dell has an iron grip on the business market.
