Any shipment that arrives has to clear customs. There is a shipping manifest and import declaration, etc with each lot.
Looking at the item shipped on July 10 - missed the cut off for Fedex that day and then had to sit over the weekend until the 12th. Then, it takes a trip from Shanghai to Incheon then to Anchorage. Once it arrives, it gets into the Customs queue and they have specific operational hours (not 24 x 7). The Fedex custom service operates from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Saturday. Once it clears customs, it is released for shipment back to Fedex. All of the flights are scheduled for around 4 PM or so Alaska time to each of the three Fedex hubs. Looks like customs was overloaded and only cleared part of the shipment.

It sounds reasonable! I think you are right! You calm me down a little bit.

my box within a box wasn't really messed with it looks like.
my outer box was banged up big time though -
still saying clearance delay... i dont think i have ever been so impatient in my life.
-
Me too! Neither FedEx nor HP has sent a email or called me to apologize for that so far!! They just take your money from your pocket then doesn't care about you any more.
-

Did anyone get their Envy without a second box?
Mine just came with the HP Envy box. I was a little angry about it but good thing nothing was damaged. -

I had the HP box and then the envy box inside.
kinda glad it was like that since the HP box was in bad shape (holes, dented, etc) -
ok i called again and this time they said that they have no record of why it has been delayed. I am really fed up with this crap. I doubt im ever going to buy an Hp again.

My dm4t lappy is stuck in Alaska since last Tuesday July 13.
Jul 13, 2010 7:16 PM Clearance delay ANCHORAGE, AK
Not sure what the heck is going on. -
-
Ack, I bet that was the expedited shipment. They likely fubared the paperwork and ended up slowing down the very shipment they were trying to hurry up. Normally, there is some important document missing and a pallet or two get held up. I would call Fedex on that one since they are brokered customs agent for HP.
-
Still in a delay. W.T.F. I called HP yesterday, but maybe I should call fedex today?
-
My dm4t lappy still showing:
Jul 13, 2010 7:16 PM Clearance delay ANCHORAGE, AK
I also got off the phone with FEDEX. Ask for the IPD Rep / Dept.
FedEx International Priority DirectDistribution® (IPD).
Direct Line: 1-800-455-4588
They have informed HP that missing paper work is needed to release the shipments. There's multiple shipments involved per FEDEX.
So, it's a waiting game, I guess -
The more I think about the more pissed I get. I called HP 3 times got a different story each time and no answers. I think we really deserve a discount or something, but I can't be rude over the phone. (What can I say I'm a nice guy) But it's getting to the point where its ridiculous. It originally said scheduled for delivery on July 15. And it hasn't moved since the 13th. I don't know how HP can't be help[ responsible when THEY are the ones that DIDN'T provide the paper work.
-
I'm not sure what unit / dept at HP can make things happen with the clearance delay issues and it's release. If it's not release by tomorrow, I may call HP and see if I can find out.
MIP = your mission folks is to find out who at HP can take action and get our lappys movingLOL!
-
Called HP again today. the lady said she would email me a $50 discount reference number. Still haven't gotten it.
-
YAY im going to call again today!!!!
-
I called twice and no did anything about it.
-
God, they finally send me an email said it will be released by tomorrow! I thought they will also send me some coupons !
-

YAY!! after giving them a mouthful, I got the email and a $50 credit. Fedex shows that it is out of a clearance delay. Good for HP! This means a lot in my eyes that they're taking care of customers.
-
I did not get a $50 credit!

Looks like they have ANOTHER clearance delay. I ordered my laptop on the 19th and it's now stuck in Alaska...so far it's only been a day but I need that laptop by next week!
-
ya i ordered mina around the 19th and now its stuck in alaska with a clearence delay. its scheduled delivery is tuesday.....if its not here then HP and FedEx are going to be hearing from me nonstop until it is.
-
EDIT: The laptop has cleared customs now. I don't think there was a real delay, I just missed yesterdays cut-off time. -
-
Mine is in clearance delay in Memphis for some reason... And then it says it'll ship to Anchorage. are HP and Fedex doing? This is nearly 10 years worth of customs delays by HP judging by the search hits i got from google.
-
It's amazing to me that my laptop has already taken over a month and is now stuck in Alaska ("Clearance Delay"). It looks like this has gone on for years with HP. I've never purchased an HP before and I've never had to wait more than a week for a laptop to arrive. I've also never had a company charge my credit card before the product shipped. Playing the float with my money. How can they still be in business? The "15% off my next purchase " coupon for my trouble cannot entice me to buy another HP product. This had better be one special, long lasting laptop. Maybe include something special... like super powers or time travel.
