    Hi,
How does HP Altec Lansing speaker compare to Hrmon Kardon on Toshiba. I was comapring HP and Toshiba, and was tempting to get a Toshiba with Harmon Cardon speakers and Vista Ultimate. But since I already own a HP dv1000t, which is actually performing well but has core duo processor so would like to know if the speakers on Toshiba make any big difference apart from being slightly cheaper overall than HP. Also, HP doesnot offer Vista Ultimate 2 bit.

HP does not use generic speakers. the Speakers used in HP notebooks are made by altec lansing and are good speakers. Harmon Kardon speakers are high end, but altec lansing makes really good stuff too. either way, they are gonna be decent. remember, though, they are notebook speakers and they are tiny. they are only gonna sound so good, due to their small size.

yep, all notebook speakers are small and you most of the time you don't notice a big difference in between brands. I personally think that notebooks should not be judge because of the speakers, people should focus more in the reliability of the computer manufacture and how good are the components they offer. In addition all notebook speakers have a little sound distortion whenever the volume is set to the highest level.

The HP come with Altec Lansing speakers which are better than what you'll get in the business line or most laptops however I dont think they are as good as the Toshiba as the toshiba comes with a built in sub no? These altec lansings dont really have bass.

No the built-in subs are only on certain models. i would say the branded speakers are probably better than generic ones you see in many other notebooks and I would also gather it depends on the model you buy, budget laptops will probably have budget speakers. harmon kardon speakers are real good but they are probably just as good if not better than altec lansing. saying that, i have seen many cheap altec speakers but havent seen any harmon kardons so that could indicate toshiba have better speakers but not necessarily. The new HDX has a sub and powerful speakers according to the review here.

I've always been impressed by the speakers on Toshiba's entertainment oriented laptops. My dad's Toshiba is probably 5 years old now but it sounds vastly superior to my moms new dv9000z.

Check out the Toshiba X205 review. Just from the pics you can see that thing has some drivers (for a notebook anyways).

Of course, you're only going to get some much quality from small laptop speakers. If sounds is important, invest in a good pair of headphones and pick the computer that suits you best.
