Without opening the lid assembly? Its not possible.

Why do you want it off anyway? Its only 1 LED so there's not really any power draw. It does seem to get people to notice the computer though~

I actually find the HP lit logo quite annoying, it's just in an awkward place. Apple at least nicely centers it, but ugh HP what were you thinking?

I suppose you could just stick something over it, an HP logo sticker or whatnot.

haha c'mon. It isnt that bad?
Find it kinda stylish, especially if you went for the moonlight model.

Good to know its only 1 LED btw!

You cant switch it off as far as i know. Its only 1 LED so its ultra low power draw.

I think LED's aren't all made the same, some draw more power than others, anyway the main reason is i just don't like flashy things, for example i let the HP coffee night(?) desktop theme stay because it is well made.

I'm not even sure it has it's own LED, may be thrown onto it from the lower LCD backlight ... Pop your bezel off if you feel comfortable doing so and take out the screen, if an LED you could clip wires ...

    I like mine.

I checked the service guide for the DV7; older screens have a LED logo Board, but I believe you and I are correct for the briteview screens, I think it is lit from the lower backlight, though I'm open to correction with confirmation hehe.

If I get the chance to tear into one this week, I'll look.

With the HDX18, you can close the lid and have the backlight turn off, but the logo will still be lit up as long as the computer is actively running. I want to say it runs off the same circuit as the Power light, but it doesn't blink in Sleep mode.

...It would probably be interesting if it did now that I think about it.

You're welcome Bullit, I'm about 100% sure it is from the backlight on those.

Weird how some things bug us eh? I myself never really thought of it as a bother, but hey, I respect those who don't like it.

My DV7 is the one with black letters on the copper keys, how that got past HP is anyones guess, but most reviews contain people who took them back 'cause they couldnt read the keys in low light / night.

I'm a touch typer, so ... I like the added "security" that no one would be able to supposedly type on my unit in low light or in the dark hehehe ...

Let's face it, a big lit up HP isn't really very stylish. I have it on my HDX18t as well, and I agree. it's kind of annoying. It'd be different if they had a cool logo, but HP? hehehe.

I did like the copper color and plaid (didnt look plaid to me) pattern on my DV7, part of what made me get it. Getting it at $300 off online prices didn't hurt either :)

I'm just using an external monitor via HDMI and even though my HDX16's display is off, the logo is on. So maybe is not the backlight that's lighting it.

Taken from the HDX16's Service Manual. My understanding is that logo uses a separate led.

I'd say the corner placement is intended to be more of a signature stamp or seal that creators and artists put on their work. Putting your seal in the middle of your work just ruins it.

But really, I have to say their new circle logo looks pretty nice lit up. It's a lot sleeker and more fitting with the rest of the design than their old rectangle one.

As far as I'm aware, HP has so far implemented a lit version of the new logo only on the dv3t, which is unfortunately discontinued in the US for the time being. I expected the refresh models for the rest of the dv linne to have at least switched over to the new circle logo, but it seems they were probably trying keep costs down by keeping the same parts and design until the next major redesign comes along.

HP didn't want Apple to know they were copying them. Don't you know nothin'?
You first. That's a terrible idea.
Not even that. If it's that much of an issue, just place something in from of it, ie a coffee mug, your laptop pack etc. Problem solved.

Krane, I'll pop my bezel off and on many more times than you ever will, you still believe replacing the laptop is a better alternative than replacing a bad LCD, and that truly is a terrible idea if an EU can perform it.

If the logo were on a separate LED circuit, cutting one lead to the LED, taping it off and putting the screen back together again will have no harm on anything. Period.

All that may be true, but it still remains that giving out that kind of advice without knowing the persons level of competence is a bad idea. Remember one of the cardinal rules of writing... consider your audience!

I have and always do consider the audience. My advice is always prefaced with "if you are comfortable with performing that".

If they attempt it, after reading my post and were not comfortable, I'm not liable, and we'll see yet another post about someone who tried something that they didn't have the skills to do.

You made that bad advice accusation without looking at the context of the thread itself, and when said advice was given.

It was on target, with caution, and entirely on the mark, however I don't really have to say any more, the other members of the forum say enough for me when necessary.

I stand by any post I have made on any type of hardware repair on this BB towards any other EU here.

Hp (and other) uses every opportunity to advertise their product. It's unlikely they're going to make it easy for you to interfere with that.

In the case of my HDX, I count 4 places is it's plastered inside the notebook alone--there's even a tine one on the LCD screen next to the webcam (lest you forget what laptop you bought)

Still there should be a way to get that...there are always options on the BIOS, unless they do as Dell did with my current laptop and put a BIOS that has only a date that can be changed....grrrr

I don't think there is a serious amount of people who care about whether their HP logo lights up or not. It's on the other side of the screen.

I think people do care; and the OP certainly does. Besides, the point isn't just about the logo, rather, it's about ME being the one who decide how my features/resources are distributed, and not dictated by the manufacturer.

Why cry about the LED ? You can use it a torch while you hack away in the dark :p
