I have a 3 mo old Compaq cq61z. A program erased my OS and the downloaded recovery disc did not work. I called them and they sent me recovery discs. They did not work I called back. Took two techs in India and Philipines a couple of hours of useless tests. Finally a third tech told me to send it to their repair site at my cost could be a bad circuit? Would take up to two weeks. A day after I sent it I get a call from one of the techs who tells me they may have sent me the wrong disc. Anyhow it came back in about a week with a new recovery disc. How can you send the wrong disc, that is all you have to do, I gave the product number, serial number and make and model number a few times?

A "program erased your operating system"??...

No offense. But were you trying to install?

Things don't just "erase your operating system" by fluke. That's called a severe virus.

I bet he had McAfee installed. it killed a ton of computers 2 days ago with an update that mistook a system critical Windows file as an infection.

    WOW really??

If I didn't understand the frustration of everyones trouble over that, I might find it entertaining.

My apologies for assuming you were not smart enough to keep your OS safe.

Wow. At my company, ~50,000 employee, we used to run Mcafee, until a virus crippiled out computer systems for nearly a month costing us MANY millions of dollars... we had a team of Mcafee engineers on site. This was Summer 2008.

The final result is now we run norton. traded one evil for another, IMO.
