Let me start out and say I've owned many laptops in the past, but never an HP, and I've never used a trackpad of this type(meaning a glossy slick trackpad).

I was wondering if it's just my laptop, or does the HP trackpad take some getting used to. I am having to click something more then once sometimes to get it to open. Does my laptop have a problem, or is this normal?

Are you talking about clicking by tapping on the trackpad?

Yes. Clicking with the left-click button is absolutely fine. Sometimes I can clik fine by tapping the trackpad, other times it is taking 2-3 taps and it is getting annoying. Why of my last laptops was a cheap Acer I used for traveling incase it broke in the process, and even that had no problems tap-clicking.

The sensitivity of the touchpad is adjustable if it is not responding the way you want it to.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse > "Device Settings" > "Settings" > "Sensitivity" > "Touch Sensitivity".

That will adjust touchpad sensitivity, you can also change the double click speed, touchpad zones etc. Just look around in the mouse/touchpad settings and im sure you will find a way to tweek it to your liking.

I dont know if this would help at all, but maybe to help diagnose the problem you can mess with the moodpad and pressure graph accessories.

When I right click the synaptics icon on the toolbar one of the options i get is for accessories. The pressure graph is a real time graph that shows when the touchpad is registering a click. The mood pad shows where your finger is on the pad and with how much force. This may help distinguish between a software vs hardware problem.
