    Hi all,

I have a Pavilion dv2535 and I am running Vista Ultimate. I have recently noticed that Windows Update tells me there are updated drivers for several aspects of my system (Conexant sound, HP Quickplay buttons, Intel wireless drivers etc.) but if I run the HP update software it tells me my system is up to date.

Which program should I believe? Is it safe to assume to Windows update is correct and HP update is just lazy? I have noticed HP update never even mentions graphics adapter drivers which is odd, in fact HP update has not told me of a single update since I have owned the systemÂ…

    Thanks

well, I might get corrected, but a lot of the manufacturers use OEM(generic?) parts-Sound Cards, Network cards, etc. While these should be exactly like the name brand product, sometimes they are not. I also have a HP Pav. and windows update continues to tell me I need to d/l files for my Modem, Video, etc. But when it comes time to download/install, it says I have the latest updates. So I personally try to stay w/ the PC manufacturer and go to their Driver/support page.

But, sometimes I'm wrong several times a day :D

In any system windows update always lists the latest driver. It's safe to do so.

The Vista updates are optional while HP updates are meant for their products.

I deinstall the vendor bloatware and use Windows/Microsoft update and now and again go to the vendor website and manually look around.

Did a clean install when I got my laptop and like JohnDone said I go to my laptops driver page and download some specific drivers like the fingerprint sensor and quickplay. The HP update tool was causing me problems from the start.

it's weird but HP Update does not recognize all your drivers that needs updating... i'd suggest to use microsoft update
