Ok, I've been looking at the HP zv6000 vs the Compaq R4000 for quite some time. Their specs are identical, and the prices are with in $200 of each other (HP is more expensive).; I'm going to let the people here help me decide. I just want to know what people have expereince with an HP vs. a Compaq, and which one has better quality/speakers/included software. I've heard for instance that HP includes backup CD's with their notebooks, while Compaq does not. I just wanted to survey as many people as I can before I buy, and hear their stories with an HP or a Compaq. You don't have to own a Compaq zv6000 or a Compaq R4000 to give an explaination (if you can) about your experience with HP vs Compaq.

    Thanks for all the Help!

I think both are exactly the same except for the case and I like the black case of the ZV6000 better, so I'll pick that. Oh yeah, it has some shortcut buttons, which the R4000 doesn't have, above the keyboard, like launching the internet.

Don't fault a Compaq just for looks. Compaqs are generally cheaper, but provide the same quality as an HP.

I'm not faulting the Compaq, I just like the black cases of the HP's better, though the R4000 or any other Compaq notebook is not ugly by any means.

Darn it, why is everyone on the internet mispelling the as teh? It really annoys me! I'm getting tired of all this internet jargon, I wish people could just use normal english...oh well.

Grr!! I was hoping that I could get a difference between the zv6000 and the R4000, but I guess not. I still can't decide and any more advice would be greatly appreciated. I was going to try and scale down the processor on a zv6000 to match the price of the Compaq. Is there a large difference in performance between the Athlon 64 3500+ and Athlon 64 3800+?

    Thanks!

I just saw a zv6000 today. For what you pay, I though it was pretty good. HP glossy screens while not as good as Fujitsus are still pretty good. The keyboard was pretty solid. It was a little plasticky, but consdering the the price it seemed like a good value. If I were in the market, I would definetly consider one.

IMO, no difference other than some extra media buttons & the case design. Both are equally good, go for which one you like the most.

The difference will not be noticable. 2.2GHz to 2.4GHz, is not enough of an increase to notice any difference other than some extremely cpu intensive tasks which is helped by the extra 200MHz.

The HP will look better over time because the gray keyboard and case makes grime, dirt, etc... easy to notice on Compaqs.

Has anyone compared the speakers of the zv6000 against the R4000? I've heard good and bad things about both computers' speakers; I just want to take this into account when I buy.

Oh, I forgot to ask another question. Hey KrispyKreme, does your zv6000 fit in its 15.4 inch carrying case easily (assuming you have a zv6000 or similar model)? I've been hearing things from my friends that they can't get their zv6000/zv5000s to fit easily in their cases. On the other hand, I've heard no complaints about fitting the R4000 into a case.

Don't know about other parts of the world, but when it comes to Compaq products in Canada, they're generally cheaper stripped-down versions of what HP already has to offer. Needless to say, HPs are of higher quality.

Hi, I'm new to notebookrev. forums. I was looking around at your guys' site, and caught a question that I have too. I want to ask a similar question to Bulletproof. If I were to get either the Compaq R4000 vs. the HP zv6000, and the only difference was the processor (Athlon 3800+ in the Compaq, and Athlon 3500+ in the zv6000), would I see a huge impact in performance? I'm not a huge gammer, but I do some light video editing. I like the looks of the zv6000 and absolutely love the speakers. I'm O.K. with the Compaq, the only thing I hate about it is its downward facing speakers that are quiteter than the zv6000's. Any reccomendations as to what I should go for?

    Thanks
