    Should I let them?

Backstory: I sent my computer in for what was supposed to be 2 weeks, to get a cosmetic issue repaired while I was on vacation. When I came back, I find the part needed (the palm rest) is on backorder, but it will be there at the end of the week. Two weeks later, my case has been escalated, and I find out they won't be getting the part in for 2 months. HP is offering to replace my computer as a way of saying they're sorry, and ship my old computer back in the mean time. Alternately, I can just keep my old computer. If I was convinced this was a better

The major differences, specs and aesthetics aside, seem to be no widi (which I had been using), and no volume knob, which I really loved.

Does anybody have a sense of the relative quality of these two computers? Im mostly concerned about comfort (battery life and temperature), ease of use (input quality), media (screen quality), and gaming (Really just Skyrim), in that order.

Also, I'm still in talks with HP, and if you can think of any key upgrades I could ask for on the new computer that would swing the decision, let me know. I might be able to get some marginal upgrades.

Here's a breakdown of the stats:

    HP Envy 3xxx:
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M Processor (2.4 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) Turbo Boost to 3.0 GHz
    • 1GB Discrete Graphics AMD Radeon 7690m (TM) [HDMI, DP]
    • 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) (Upgraded to 8gb)
    • 500GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive (upgraded to 128gb SDD)
    • $20 OFF Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2010
    • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • 15.6-inch diagonal Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam
    • Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
    • Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard
    • Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 9
    • 2 year limited warranty included
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    HP Envy dv6t-7300:

    Windows 8 64
2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M Processor (2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz)
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 635M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory
    15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
NO mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache (I will probably upgrade this slot to a 128gb SDD boot drive)
    Microsoft Office Trial
    No additional security software
30% off 9 cell Lithium Ion Battery
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

Wouldn't the dv6t-7300 be the most recent version of the dv6t, which would be an Ivy Bridge system and a i5-3xxx CPU?

You can configure it w/ a 2nd generation processor, as low as an i3.

I should also mention they've offered me a Pavilion dv6t-7000 with similar specs (mSSD, 6GB memory, GT 630M, Windows 7). So getting something from that line is an option too.

A 630M is significantly slower than a 7690m. A 635m could be faster or slower, as it comes in two different versions, one with 96 shaders and one with 144 shaders. I'm not sure which version HP uses. You may be able to ask for an upgrade to the optional 650m, which is much, much faster.

There's no way the ENVY dv6t is as good looking as the ENVY 15, it doesn't use the same quality aluminum build either. But they (stupidly) ditched the ENVY 15 line so there's no way to get that replaced with a new machine. If you go the route of a replacement insist on an Nvidia 650M as clearly that's the equivalent card you deserve here, and insist on a faster 3rd generation processor as you would have paid top dollar for the second generation when you bought the ENVY 15 and so you should get the equivalent value now, say a Core i7-3630QM. I'd also ask for the mSSD to make up for the fact you don't see WiDi as a feature on the ENVY dv6t that you do have on your ENVY 15.

What they're offering now is a lesser machine, if you ask for and get the above I'd probably do the replacement, but still be upset I'm not getting as good a looking a machine.

it is very sad that envy line is gone... shame..

dv line does not have a wifi card with dual band for 5ghz band...
I use 5ghz wifi and widi all the time and that would be a deal breaker.. but again I dont know anyof their laptops that has dual band wifi anymore..

what is going on, the world is going back ward.. hopefully with the AC wifi they will be forced to do everything dual band.

Ironic, this deal just appeared on Groupon today, you can get the ENVY for $599.99 refurbished with the same specs as the OP:

15.6-Inch HP Envy Notebook PC Deal of the Day | Groupon

Maybe these are all the refurbs froml those people that had the "orange screen" issue. Pretty nice price.

the new dv6 while a bit better than the old version are still horrible. the specs they are offering u are insulting. WHat is ur warrenty? If I was u, I would wait till HP released their next lineup and ask for a replacement from there. even if u were able to get them to give u the quad core cpu+650m, the cooling on the dv6 is horrible and the plastic buildquality is worse than the build issues we were having with the envys.

if i had to choose from current lineup, I would prolly go with the 15in spectre xt with the touch screen. I realize it doesnt have gpu/speakers/widi(?) but i wouldnt wanna downgrade to a overheating P.O.S. going from an envy
