I recently bought an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and the webcam appeared to be working fine in Quickplay.

One day the webcam stopped working in Quickplay mode, so after trawling through the internet i found a solution:

Computer -> System properties -> Imaging devices,
then disable and re-enable the webcam.

This solved my problem, and the webcam works when i access it through quickplay.

However, i started using Skype today, and the webcam refused to work in video mode (i could only receive video, not send it). I then tested it in HP's Quickplay and everything was fine. I tried the disable/ enable trick but it still doesn't work in Skype, only in Quickplay.

So does anyone have a solution to make my webcam work in all applications, not just HP's quickplay software?

(I have the latest HP drivers.)

    OK thanks a lot!

Edit - i looked in device manager and it doesn't say that the webcam is made by chicony. it lists it as an HP wbcam, manufacturer Microsoft. If my webcam isn't a chicony webcam, will that fix still work??

If you're looking to get your internal web cam working with Skype you should have a look at this webcam software called YouCam. It works with Windows Live, Skype, Yahoo messenger, and AOL instant messenger.

Since I started using Youcam in IM mode I haven't had any problems.

Make sure that your video settings are correct in Skype.

In Skype 4.0 options (Tools >> Options), under the General category, select Video Settings. Make sure that the webcam it is using is set to "HP Webcam." If the webcam doesn't start initially, save and close the options window and then reopen it and go back to the Video Settings. Hopefully the webcam should start.
