I just purchased an xb3000 Expansion Base for both my family's dv9500t and dv9843cl laptops. I wish to connect these laptops, via the xb3000, to my 2002 HDTV, which only has component video inputs. I know the HDTV's component video inputs are working, as my cable box utilizes them for 720p and 1080i resolution. However, I cannot seem to get the xb3000 to send a signal to the tv via component video cable. I can connect via the s-video ports, but that connection is not Hi-Def. The NVidia setup application within control panel, can see the component ports, only when the s-video AND the component video cables are connected to the tv at the same time. Unfortunately, I still do not receive a component video port signal during this configuration and the s-video input is scrambled. But, the component video port(s) are not seen when only that cable is connected to the tv alone. I find this odd, and the NVidia application will see my HDTV (vs standard TV) when both cables are connected at the same time. All connections are directly between the xb3000 and the HDTV.
I have contacted HP support for help, but they inform me that they really do not have much information about this in their knowledge base. I realize I can connect via the HDMI port, but I am still waiting for the prices of large HDTVs to drop a bit more before I make that purchase. It seems to me that HP promotes this expansion base as being able to provide HDTV connectivity from the laptop to a television, yet they are unable to explain why I am experiencing this challenge.
I have also tested this issue with both Pavilion laptops connected, thinking perhaps the Blue Ray DVD Drive in the dv9843cl might prevent this capability because of anti-piracy functionality. Additionally, I have also tried a new Quickdock (HP smaller expansion base offering) with the same result. Furthermore, I have tried another set of component cables as well.
If anyone has had a similar experience or can suggest a solution, I would be very gratefull. Thank you for your consideration and suggestions.
