well like this i have a hp zd8000 pavilion that i got about 2 and a half years ago i really love it! tough it has overheating issues and its terribly heavy but he's really a first class laptop. So my time came to get a new one and as i was satisfied with my pavilion i decided that my next one gonna be a HP again so i chose my self the HP dv5-1007tx great performance,,looks great and a good price, in the shop it all seamed great until i came home.First that i noticed was the screen i felt that it just isn't as on my zd8000 it felt somehow way to aggressive and colors seamed way too pale, i tried going to the graphic card settings and the vista settings but it was all hopeless i could adjust the software parts about the screen but couldn't do nothing about the hardware, one thing that was really anoying all so is that there is no black color on the screen! the darkest color closest to black is a dark shade of gray!.The screen was so bright that my eye's where after just about 45 minutes all red! (i don't have any vision issues i dont ware glasses etc) i didn't know what was going on.the screen is a nightmare its so bright, glary and LED is just piercing trough the pixels its just terrible and cheap! there was always some kind of whit brightness more in the center and in the corners of the screen i had to return it and no one knew in the shop to tell me anything why is it made that way, why does it have to be so bright whats the purpose of it! dont people care about their eyes and health!
but one thing that i noticed is that the screen seams perfect under bright neon light, but if your lke me and you like to use it in a dimmed room relax etc forget about it this thing will just destroy your eyesight. So here is my problem i need a new laptop and i dont know which one to get , they all seam fantastic in the shops under all does bright lights so i need some help in choosing a new laptop similar specifications like the HP dv5-1007tx but with a "normal" screen, thanks guys for your comments and suggestions.

You can reduce the brightness of your screen mate, most laptops Ive seen have hot keys on the keyboard that you can use to adjust it as well, try that first

I am sorry but, have you read my entire post, coz if you did and you still wrote this then i guess you missed something...

what i am trying to say is i couldn't do nothing about the LED brightnes, it just adjust the image colors and brightne's it doesent reduce the LED intensity, its allways beaming the same amount of light trough the picture.

I did, I just think that all of those small things are related to the brightness, if you reduce the brightness the blacks will get darker and those other issues could get sorted.

To be honest, with the lack of punctuation in the post it's very difficult to read. I gave up half way through.

Try find out if others have the same issue. And just keep fiddling with those settings.

With the pale colors and glare, I suspect its a screen problem. I've not seen this in the newer HP laptops though.

If you have already done everything that can be done for the problem, and you are still unsatisfied with the quality of the display, you can return it.

HP Compaq 6730s - the same problem - my eyes are non-stop so tired and strain, and I have non stop headache!
About a hour in from of my HP Compaq 6730s and I feel my eyes like they are broken!
I have my laptop from 10.06.2008 (about one month) and I'm from Bulgaria - Can I return it?
    It really kills my eyes!

    Sorry my English!
