I recently took this laptop over from the missus when I built her a new desktop.

It was sitting stock at 512mb RAM and running Ubuntu Feisty. I swapped one of the 256 sticks for a 512, and I really felt very little difference in performance. So... I ordered up a second 512mb stick. Now it is maxed at 1gb, and it is noticeably peppier.

I have been reading all sorts of things about how slow/inefficient the Pentium 4's were. Maxing out the RAM has certainly helped a ton.

Now if only this thing weren't so heavy....

Upgrading to a faster hard drive will give a big performance boost as well.

So would upgrading to a new computer :D . Seriously though, I think the computer is old enough that I wouldn't put any more money into it. Instead, start saving up for a replacement.

It really depends on what you are doing.
