I've heard/read of people running two gig of RAM in their zv notebooks, but according to everything I've seen from HP and Kingston, only 1.25 gig is supported. What up with that?

Mine came with 512 and I'd like to add another gig to it. Ideally, I'd like to get up to two gig, but a gig and a half will work.

But, now I can only go to 1.25? That means I buy a 512 and then I'm stuck at a gig?

    What up with dat?

Oh wait a minute... I thought I had one 512 stick in there. I bet I have 256 in the "non removable" slot and another 256 in the additional slot. So, I can only add one gig to that slot, bringing me to 1.25...

I was under the impression (from the sales dork) that it was all in one slot.

You have to open up the notebook to get to the internal SODIMM slot, but that's easy enough. The slot is under the keyboard. Take out the four screws along the bottom back edge, remove the bezel just above the keyboard (carefully!), remove the four screws securing the keyboard (careful with the ribbon cable), and you're there. Unplug and remove the battery before doing any of this.

The trick is finding compatible memory. PC2700 sticks from Crucial (Micron) and Kingston are safest. I'm using a pair of Crucial 512MB PC2700 sticks.

I've got the same situation - but opted to go with a 512MB stick in slot 2. Eventually I will replace that 256MB stick in slot 1 with a 1GB sodimm (maybe a nice thing to spend my tax refund on!), and leave it there, until I can afford another 1GB stick later this year.

Keep us posted on your progress, and I'll do the same, ok?
