    Hiya guys
I got my laptop a little more than a year ago (a year and a few months now), and usually keep it plugged in. Sometimes though I'll unplug it and let the battery drain and then plug it in to recharge since I've been told it's better to keep it going regulary like that.

Anyway I just noticed recently though after having it plugged in, then taking it mobile, that after just a few minutes I noticed the charge already dropped to somewhere in the 50's. Then after taking it mobile again today I noticed again that after just a few minutes the battery was already down to the 50's% (after having it left plugged in all night). And just now, I have the laptop plugged in, yet the battery charge says it's at 60% and the charge light is already off. I unplugged for a few seconds and plugged it in only to see the charge light go on for about 10 seconds, then shut off (charge level is at 60%).

Is my battery on it's way to dying already? Can I get this replaced free of charge or anything or would I have to spend a number of dollars to get a good working battery?

It's the 12 cell battery btw. Used to get around 3 to a little over 3 hours of mobile use, but now with the battery's max charge at 60% that cuts it down drastically to just about half.

Have you been using your battery a lot since you got the notebook? I know you mentioned that you keep it plugged in most of the time, but notebook batteries are only expected to give you a finite number of charge cycles. They are expected to last between 1-3 years, so you may just be on the low end of that spectrum.

It seems like you are calibrating your fuel gauge, so that doesn't seem like it's the problem there. If your battery gets hot while on AC power, that could be the culprit for the fast degradation of your cells. You may want to consider a second battery, and prolonged storage while you continue to use your existing battery when on AC power.

There is more discussion about this in the battery guide.

not really it's plugged in probably 90% of the time, and the battery doesn't seem to be hot...not even warm really. Guess I just got one of the "bad" battery?

Since posting, I've noticed that the battery charge is at 63% now...but yea even though it's ah....kind of charging it's doing it at a snail's pace. I think it's been about a two hours now since I posted at 60%

thanks for the link I'll check it out

where can I find my warranty information?

If it's in the package of manuals I may have to dig that out from wherever it is

zv6000 has one year standard warranty; if you bought extended, you will probably remember it.
HP had a battery recall sometime near the end of 2005. I think my zv6000 was affected but since I'm not in the States anymore I did not replace it.

very strange...after awhile of a 50% max charge for my battery, I took it out to look for a part number to see if i can get a replacement, and when I put it back in and left it charging overnight, the max charge went back up to 73%, and it seems to be holding that charge currently...

are there any tips to maybe raise that back up to 100% full charge? lol

Try calibrating the battery, that might help some.
