OK so I bricked the damn thing with a java plug in for chrome. Go figure right...???
CD drive is not booting and based on the lack of responses to multiple threads here regarding USB boot support for this beast... my plan was to simply get an external USB enclosure for the drive that came stock in the HP and grab the few files I wanted from the drive with another machine then maybe sell the HP thing for parts.
Who woulda thunk that finding an enclosure that fits the pins for an Ultra ATA100 / ATA-6 would be so freakin hard?
Newegg.com - Fujitsu MHV2120AH 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" IDE Ultra ATA100 / ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
I have external drive enclosures, both SATA and IDE for 2.5 inch drives but the IDE pin set is wider on this ULTRA ATA ??? Picked up a Kensington then a Sabrent at Fry's - drove it 100 miles home and found it too was too small for the pin set-up. Went back, returned it and they tried to sell me exactly the same one. Then mr tech boy in the memory / drive dept announced that they don't make external enclosures to fit this. At that point I thought of this clip with De Niro from The Untouchables...
I want him DEAD - YouTube
But alas I refrained.
Can anyone direct me to an enclosure that they know will work. I'm tired of returning stuff... Thanks.
