Recently, I ordered a 10ft AC cord from HP for use with my power adaptor. For just one small piece of power plug, this is how it was delivered to me. In a 10kg wooden pallet, directly from Inventec in Shanghai.
This is simply ridiculous as the barely 300g box was contained within a larger box and strapped to a wooden pallet weighing more than the contents itself. DHL must have charged HP a lot for this shipment, so how could this even be cost effective.
I am kind of annoyed with HP as I had to drag this pellet from my apartment lobby, into the lift, out of the lift, into my home, cut it open, remove the contents and discard all the junk packaging. This is ultra fail for environmental conservation.

Wow, are there like 5 laptops in there (it is that big).

Whoops...just a tiny box.

What do we have here? A power cord!

I bet you thought HP sent you a crate of notebooks or something
-
Damn thats just hilarious!

Power cords needs space at all times otherwise they loss the ability to transfer power. So HP was doing the smart thing.
-
Couldn't that be some sort of recognition for (extremely) loyal consumers?
Anyway, you shouldn't complain much since you've got more "bang for the buck" (literally) as some people around would say. ROLF

I once received a 2in metal o-ring from Rolse Royce in a box that large... came from england too. I cant believe companies pay shipping like that.
But yeah thats insane for a plug. I guess they wanted you really satisfied that your item was protected -

that is very mean what HP did.
They make it seem like you got something really nice (by mistake) and then it turns out to be exactly what you ordered. damn -
If it was shipped from America it would just have a bunch of tape around it and a crumbled up packing label slapped on it with a rubber band or two for security.
-
You need to forward this story to The Consumerist, they eat this stuff up.
-
The pictures you have here seem perfect for a failblog submission
-
ouch. Well, look at the bright side, you now have a pallet lol (uses? no idea...)
-
The environment is crying.
-
I'm thinking you almost got lucky, but they realized the shipping error and took the extras out and were to lazy to repack.
-
Is this for real that you were sent a full pallet and a huge box for just that?????

Oh, and this isn't the first time I've gotten this. It occured to me a year ago for an AC adaptor replacement, but I figured that was a mistake. -
You should return it as a defective product and send it back in an even bigger box. -
Now that you have some boxes and a pallet, invite your friends over for a campfire.
-
Bahahahahaha. Stupid. Well think of it this way. HP cost themselves a lot of money. Maybe they'll learn eventually.
+1 for best thread of the week! -
I'm thinking it's not the problem with HP, but with the shanghai people. They saw that only your package was connect to the pallet and though, "whatever" and just sent it
-
This is hilarious. Makes me wonder what would I get if I order something bigger from HP.
Thanks for sharing. -

Atleast the power cord wasn't damaged in transit.

hahaha thats too funny

As much as a misfortune that it is(maybe?
), that is pretty hilarious.
A large box I could understand, but the whole pallet?
I remember buying a PS3 controller from Dell, and they shipped it in a 4kg box full of more empty boxes... -

Thanks for the laugh.
Be well, JW -
can someone please forward this onto failblog? that's bound to get their attention...fail for environment, fail for hp.
-
You know, the other day I heard that HP was having problems with environmentalists, since they are not so "green"...
Well, this <strike>ridiculous</strike> interesting packaging confirms it IMO... -
well, actually Lenovo makes also something like this. I have received a replacement keyboard in a huge box which weighted 3kg.

Hey! What a great idea! Instead of dealing with costly recycling, countries can now ship off their waste cardboard, plastics, etc. overseas and get the recipients to pay for it too!
A little like the US govt sending off our nuclear wastes (depleted uranium) and spreading it around Iraq and Afghanistan. Pure genius! -
Owned!
LMAO -
I've seen some crazy boxes from Newegg etc but this eats the cake. Not only the box but the rack as well. Wow...
-
chrixx, what is the order number or invoice number on this? I want to look into this because this was not shipped from HP if it came from China. If it came from China, then they packaged much more than necessary to be able to bill HP more, and I want to escalate this and get someone fried.
And for the rest slapping HP without knowing the full story, thanks. -
Jebster-wanna sling personal insults? Go somewhere else.
-
2. You can't get someone "fried" over this. Is that how they torture factory workers in China?
3. This is real. -

Chrixx, fried may be the wrong word, but I can get this done.
etim...whatever, I wasn't talking to you.
