    Just wondering...

I find the remote control that HP includes (or sells seperately, depending on your configuration) a really great idea!

How many people would purchase a television or DVD player that didn't have a remote control?

As more and more people use their computers for entertainment, the inclusion of a remote to control your DVD's or while listening to music just seems like a really brilliant idea, especially when it can be stored in the PC or ExpressCard slot. It adds almost no weight, and even if it doesn't come with your laptop, HP sells them for only $20!

So... do people who own an HP and have the remote find it useful, or is it one of those things you play with the first few days after you get your new laptop, then store away in the ExpressCard slot and never use again?

Also, why don't more manufacturers include this feature???

    Just curious.

I haven't used mine for my DV8000z but I haven't used the QuickPlay feature all that much, either.

I do think it's a nice touch, though.

    Hi Shel,
The remote will control more than just the multimedia and Quickplay functions. It can be used with the web and several other applications. This is useful for a couple of reasons, it gives you the ability to sit back and not reach for the keyboard to browse forward or back. Also it saves some wear and tear on the touch pad and keyboard. Anyway yup I still use it here and there.

One reason I was set on getting my former HP DV4000 was because of its remote control, I thought it was a very neat accessory but wound up never, ever using it, I wonder why....

Feels slightly flimsy, but I popped it in the slot just for a bragging piece.

Anyhow, I just loaded up a PowerPoint presentation...and the arrows can be used to advance each slide...SCORE. It's going to be useful this weekend at a meeting :hp:

Well, I received my dv1000t today. Played around with watching Lord of War, and checked out the remote.

Pretty cool! I don't have a television in the bedroom (we don't watch too much t.v.), and on occasion my wife and I like to use the laptop to watch a movie. This will come in handy.

LOVE that it also works with Powerpoint, as I use Powerpoint presentations for work!

You can also use any PDA as a learning remote control.
