Well, if you live in the US or Canada; Costco Sells various Computers from Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc. and their (Costco's) return policy is 3 months (USA) and 6 months (Canada).

Buying from retail/direct is Very risky these days since most of these companies only want to take your money and run - i.e. hence the 14 day to 30 day return policies.

Costco on the otherhand seems to be more concerned about long term profits versus short term gains - hence their return policies.

After buying 2 laptops (HP & Toshiba) in the past, via regular retail - and having something wrong with both (different hardware issues); and only able to figure it out after a month or so when the return window was long gone; then encountering terrible technical support that outright lies, gives you the run around, etc.

..when purchasing my 3rd laptop (a month ago) it finally dawned on me that most of these manufacturers Do Not cater to the regular consumer as they do with coporate clients; and that I could no longer afford to keep throwing money into these money pits (especially as a student) and decided to look into a reputable company with a good return policy (instead of going months on end with what were brand new machines tied up in ridiculous warranty systems).

Anyhow, I'm glad I found out costco has such a decent return policy - it truly shows the difference between them and your average stock-pleasing corporations.

P.S. Costco's warehouses and online websites carry different stock, etc. - with some carrying more models than others.

Can't speak to Costco, tho I've seen many posts here from folks who are very happy w/Costco. AFA HP goes, my understanding is that their return policy is 21 days. Quoted from their most recent print catalog:

"Easy Returns. 21-day exchange with FREE return shipping. In addition to HP quality, reliability and service, we also guarantee your satisfaciton. If, for any reason, you're not 100% happy with your purchase, you can exchange your HP product up to 21 days after delivery, no questions asked.* We even pay your return shipping."
*Policy does not include opened, boxed software.

On the fine-print page in the middle of the catalog (far too much text to reprint here), it says essentially the same thing, and give the procedure on how to do it--calling in, getting an RMA, etc. They may also insist that you first speak to tech support, tho I don't see how that fits into their "no questions asked" comment.

I didn't see anything about a restocking fee.

But overall, it seems pretty straightforward, tho I must note that I have not yet tried it myself, so I can't vouch for the ease (or lack thereof) of the process. I did speak to an HP rep about it, and he indicated returns/exchanges were no big deal. YMMV.

I was able to return my 9500t for a brand new one, after finding a noisy fan... they will accept for a replacement, just that you need to be persistent, do a couple of painful tech support calls, get a ticket and show the ticket as a proof that tech support didn't solve the problem for the final call where you demand for a replacement, they will give you the RMA number without much hassle. But don't forget to do this whole thing before 21 day period.

I have not tried the "I don't like it" thing... but one of my friend returned his notebook saying he doesn't like a white laptop, may be you can try something like that...

Even if you don't have a Costco near you, you can customize one on their website and order it. You would have to be a member though. It may or may not be worth the ~$40 membership to buy from them.

I am not avid gamer these days and I did not play this game well into the night... but what I have touched I have maxed out all the settings resolution, antialiasing and so on... and it played decently well, I didn't not notice any timelag.. I have not played much and also I don't know how it plays on a GT card to notice any difference.. I have asked my friend to bring his notebook once and then we would compare...
