ahem, what are trying to tell us or HP here ??? -
You can't install the monthly ATI drivers releases in laptops.
-
well, you can...
just because of most people don´t know how, it doesn´t mean it is not possible
maybe you remember the mobility modder that was out there a while ago. afaik the support for it has been discontinued, but what it actually did was adding a lot cards ( mobile) the the drivers *.inf.
and that you can do manually. there is no need for a special software. as soon as a new driver comes out you only need add this line carrying the device id of your card to the *.inf file of the driver. thats about it.
of course ati could have done that already. it´s not much trouble. and from what i have experienced with patching ati´s firegl driver the standard ccc already has the powerplay feature integrated. -
I know the modder and i am very thankfull for it, i am with 9.12 + hotfix in my DV7. But why i would want to spend my time doing that?
-
you don´t even need that modder...
all you need to do is add one line in the drivers *.inf file to have that driver installed for your card.
if i want to add support to my hd 2600 mobility (device id 9581) i just need to add one line in the driver´s inf :

Where'd you get the Catalyst 10.1 beta? 10.1 should be released sometime this week. Supposedly ATI was going to start supporting laptops directly soon so seeing support in 10.1 makes sense. I just hope the 10.1 Linux drivers support Fedora 12 Linux. ATI has been slacking about supporting latest-revision kernels and X.org.
HP, i hope you don't disappoint me!
