    But the fastest X2 they offer is still much slower than most Duos, right?

    For the few benchmarks available, the DUO will beat the X2 for single threaded applications. This is mainly due to the DUO much larger cache.

    However, the X2 will be able to run 64-bit applications. The "promise" from software vendors such as Microsoft is both 64-bit and Multithreading enablement (a la Vista64). For that, the X2 should shine, since 64-bit and/or multi-threaded apps should have substantial performance boost (remains to be seen however).

    If you are looking for a 4-year notebook (to last until 2010), amd must buy one now; the TurionX2 should survive all the upgrades in the coming years (64-bit, multithreaded apps).

    If you can wait, the upcoming Merom vs. future Turion X2 should give buyers great choices, as well as "future proof" the investment.
