I am sure this has been discussed before but I could not find anything in "search".

Is there any advantage to buying my laptop directly with HP or does the 6 month return policy on Costco trump the HP website. The price is very similar.

    Thanks.

its depends i guess. i was also going to buy my dv9000 from costco but i didn't need 2gb of ram and 120gb. the one they had at costco was about 1499. my budget was around 1k-1100 for a laptop. i ended up just ordering online from hp and getting 1gb ram and 80 gb

Costco doesn't let you customize like HP does, but HP does not offer a satisfaction guaranteed return policy of 6 months. Also, you may want to look into the technical support offered by Costco. Cheaper than HP, if I remember right.

The costco website has the EXACT same customizations as the HP website...at least for the dv9000t...only Costco is a few dollars cheaper.

oh ok. what swayed me to order from hp.com was b/c hp had a $200 instant off and they offered 1gb, webcam, mircophone, and imprint finish for free. but now they charge about $50 for 1gb of ram from 512, 29 for the cam mic combo

Costco also has membership fees that you have to contend with. Don't forget to factor that in.

Tax is a fact of life...I think just about everyone (including HP) will charge for it.

You can't beat the 6mo return policy. I'm waiting till they have Vista preinstalled on their custom to order laptops so I can exchange my DV6000 for one that doesn't lockup and has Vista on it. I hope Vista is as fast or faster then my current OS (XP Media) . My t7200 with 2gigs should fly but sometimes it does not.

it is cheaper to customize your hp laptop at the hp website rather then the costco website. After the student discount, it is cheaper...

Not sure about the student discount....but it is not true about HP being cheaper than Costco to customize....Costco beats them with ever change by at least a few dollars.... especially the extended warranties.

Well I have put in the same specs to customize the hp dv6000t both at costco.com and hp.com and with the student discount (APP), it is much cheaper at hp.com

The ram might be a little cheaper at costco, but other then that it is overall much cheaper...

Which may not be too much of a factor if you are a member already (its a yearly fee of $50 for basic membership).

I've never purchased a laptop from costco but their service when something goes wrong with electronics has always been excellent, especially after more than a month, unlike other big box-like stores
