Hello this is my first post here and I was hoping that maybe I could get some good advice before I start my upgrade on my 1st 17Envy 3D that I purchased back in June 2011. I bought the 17 Envy 3D with the 300 GB SSD a few weeks ago and the difference between the two are like day and night.

I have a Intel 320 Series 300 GB,Internal (SSDSA2CW300G310) (SSD) Solid State Drive on the way should be here this week. Got a good price on it.
I also have the original System Recovery DVD disks that ordered when I bought the laptop.
I want to do a fresh install but want to do it right. I dont care about whats on the existing laptop as I have made back ups of everything on it.

    1. I was hoping I could just insert the disk into the laptop.
    2. Insert the new 2.5 Intel SSD drive.
    3. Turn on the laptop and follow the instructions that show up when I power it up. Does that seem logical or are there certain things I need to do.

Here is the original configuration of the 17t-2000 I bought back in June.
HP ENVY 17 3D customizable Notebook PC 17t-2000
    Product Code LQ621AV

    • 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6850M Graphics [HDMI]
    • 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 2TB 5400RPM Dual Hard Drive (1TB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • One 6-Cell and One 9-Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • 17.3" diagonal Full HD HP 3D Ultra BrightView Infinity LED Display (1920x1080)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You pretty much have it right. Put the SSD in SATA 0...that is the one to the right. Boot up into your recovery disks and you will be given three options...Microsoft recovery....HP Full recovery or HP Limited recovery. With the Envy 17 3D...MAKE SURE to make copies of your TriDef directory, if you are to do the MS or HP Limited recovery...for TriDef will only get re-installed with HP Full Factory recovery. I never have issues with that option, because the Envy comes with limited bloatware. SSD alignment should be fine with any of the options...other thanthat...you are good to go. If you have any other questions...don't hesitate to ask...BTW...my Envy 17 3D came with the 320 series factory installed....even though not the fastest SSD out there...the 320 series is rock solid and a very good performer.
