    Hey,

I have been using a 2510p for a few months now, and gotta say that I really love it ;-)
One thing that is a bit disappointing though, is of course the poor 1.8" 4200rpm HDD performance ...
I have been doing some research and found a couple of 1.8" HDDs that spin @5400rpm, which I guess, should show a significant performance increase.
For example this Samsung drive, which seems to be pretty new:

    http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...72&type=60&subtype=68&model_cd=266&ppmi=1160#

I don't see it on sale here in Germany yet, so I guess it must be really new.
Anyways, my question is, can I fit this HDD with a regular PATA connector, according to the Samsung web site, into the 2510p as a replacement?
Are there other, "fast", 5400rpm 1.8" drives out there which would fit into
    the 2510p?
I would also consider a SSD, but right now, those drives are way too expensive in my eyes, plus they are limited to max. 64gb.

    best regards,

    boba

Give it a few months. Dell currently has exclusivity on the high capacity Samsung drives, so it's unlikely HP will have them anytime soon.

    Hey chrixx,

well I don't want HP to have them or have them not, I want ME to have one hehe. I can replace the HDD by myself, just need a dealer to buy one :)
But well, if those 5400s would be available in a few months, that would still be nice.

There are a couple different connection types of the 1.8" drives. One connection type has pins that are similar to a regular IDE drive, just smaller and spaced very closely together. The second type of connection, which I've found to be used in the Dell laptops, is the ribbon connection. You have to be 100% sure of the connection type you are buying and what connection type is being used in your laptop. So make sure you check both before you buy, otherwise you might end up wasting money on a HDD you can't use.

yea, i dont have a laptop to look at yet, was thinking of buying one without a harddrive and wanted to know how much it would be for a SSD so was looking for a place to buy one that would fit.
