Well Guys, Hp has stated that they will not make the Driveguard available for the 8510p and 8510w with XP 64 Systems.

Played around a little bit, and voila there is a solution. The driver from the Vista64 installation is working for the 8510p and w.

here is the driver extracted from the vista64 installer.

    http://www.uploading.com/files/1YD9J95I/3DDriveguard.rar.html

the Driveguard monitor itself won´t install. at least not the ones made for vista(32 and 64 bit), and the XP 32bit Driveguard installation works, but the monitor that resides in the tray does not work.
within the monitor it´s not possible to switch on or off the 3D Driveguard, but at least the freefall sensor is working now.so i only extracted the driver from the installer package.

this might also work for the other hp notebooks that use the freefallsensor like 8710w and 8710p ...

thanks hp for not telling us, that at least the driver is working ;)

    Schoko,

Thank you for your posting. I ran into the same issue for my HP 6715b notebook.

I downgraded from Vista Business to Windows XP x64 Edit, and Hp did not have all the drivers for XP x64.
The other drivers for graphics, modem and network, I was able to find elsewhere. But there was an unkown device for the 3DDriveguard - HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor, and the driver you posted worked for my OS.

I called HP to have them update their case log, and hopefully this will help other people too.

    Thanks again,
    John

I´m curious if Hp will do anything about this. Their techs ( at least i thought it were techs) stated that the Mobile data protection under XP64 will not be supported. Since this driver is clearly working all they would need to have done was making the xp32 bit driveguard software available for xp64. My guess is they will just "forget" that the driver working for xp64.

I don´t mind not having the driveguard software, since it actually just tells you if a device is compatible. thats a nice thing to see, if your new hdd has this feature, but it ain´t necessary. You mostly do know what you are buying, and you will see if this mobile data protection sensor is working when you shake your laptop a bit. ;)

I found out that the whole Power Tools package is not working correctly. Some components do not want to install.

Just a reminder for people looking for XP64 drivers: if there are any available, they're listed in a document on the manuals site.
My guess is that they don't want to put them next to XP32 and Vista, since it would give people false hope about finding all drivers for XP64.
