    Hi all,

I've just finished installing XP from scratch on my new HP8710p. I've installed every driver from the HP drivers page, yet one device remains "unknown". Could someone with an 8710 please check out this screenshot of the Device Manager and tell me which one is missing?

    Any ideas appreciated! :)

Download and install all the HP ProtectTools programs. It will install the driver for you correctly. Then uninstall that program (but it will leave the driver behind) if you do not need it.

Thanks everyone, ProtectTools indeed contained the driver.

Though instead of installing that huge system, I used WinRar to extract sp36299.exe after downloading, and found the actual driver files inside PTESM\Disk1\Win32\TPM Driver. I directed the New Hardware Wizard to this folder and it installed fine. Yay!

ED: For reference, the driver set is actually called "Infineon Trusted Platform Module" (appears under System Devices). So the sensor manufacturer is Infineon, though the HP site lists a separate Authentec driver which doesn't seem to do anything. Odd, afaik they are competitors in the sensor market. Anyways..

I find the overall ProtectTools suite - its integration into every nook and cranny of the OS - more bother than it's worth. Where multiple people are using a PC with various security levels, it would be great. But as a single user, once over the gimmick value, it a bit of a PITA. Firefox is good at handling passwords, and generally they're quicker just to type in than have to swipe my finger and wait for the magic to happen. Maybe I'm old-fashioned!
