    Hi !

    I just read all the topics talking about HP 8710p and 8510w but i don't know what notebook is better for playing game...

    These are the two models that I could buy actually (not other so, dont talk me about the 8710w or the other 8710p configuration please :p )

    8510w

    * Microsoft Genuine Windows Vista Business
    * 15.4” WSXGA+ 1680x1050

    Why Will i do with my notebook :

    I am student in webdesign, multimedia and infography, so i often use Photoshop, 3DsMax, and so on... But i a am also a big Gamer of recent new games! (Playing lot of FPS and MMORPG, doing lot of LAN and so on..)

    Where is the problem :

    Well these two news models have very close processors. Instead, the T9300 seem better when we look after Benchmark...

    For the graphic card, 8710p seem better with the QUADRO NVS320m accordly to the website "notebookcheck" and their benchmark. The Quadro FX570m seem to have some difficulties with high graphic setting in game.

    For the reoslution, 8510w is better for working with the 15.4” WSXGA+ 1680x1050... but for watching movies, the 17" in 1440x900 from the 8710p as an advantage for confort...

    No matter about the weigh! I have a FS amilo XI-1546 and with more than 4kg, i dont think that the 8710p could be as equal in term of weght! :)

    HDD.... 5400 for the 8710p against 7200 for the 8510w....

    So, this is the reason why i don't know what notebook i must choose for playing and working! I know that i am a very very big gamer, i like to play in very good condition with graphic setting put very high...

    What do you think? From these two models and their new processor (T8300 and t9300) what do you tink? What notebook is the better for playing and work in good condition?

    Cordially, :)

    17" with only 1440x900 is too low I think.

    Hi,

    did not you mixed the resolutions?

    1680x1050 -> 8710p (i have this res. on mine...)
    1440x900 -> 8510w

    The last game i was playing on the 8710p (T7500 2.2Ghz) was bioshock (with high settings but with lower resolution than native, 1440x768 or something near) lets say i have decent frame rates (15-50fps) and 1440 x whatever is still sharp at playing even its not the display's native resolution.
    The quadro FX could be better for openGL applications (not for openGL games!) but only when working on complex wireframes and its worthy to mention CUDA.
    About the processors, i dont think the difference between the 8300 & 9300 would be that big in term of speed, lets say max. 5% if not less.

    I think the 8710p will be capable of running GTA4 with decent speed on mid settings.

    "i like to play in very good condition with graphic setting put very high..."
    Then maybe an SLI sager/alienware would be better for you...

    Get the 8710p. Although the 8730 is out now, the 8710p/w will be still a very fine - not for the average joe - machine.

    Thats all i can say using my weak english.

    It depends on what you do more. If you plan to work more and use graphics intensive programs, then I would get the 8510w for it's higher resolution. I prefer a lot of screen real estate when I do work, but you might feel differently.

    If you're going to game more, than I would get 8710p. It has a larger screen and a lower native resolution. As in the this screen is optimized to look good at at lower resolution. There's less load on the GPU, and the game will still look good because there won't be any stretching if you're running on native.

    Mobile GPUs are so limited, that differences in screen resolution really help the rendering the capabilities. The same is true for desktops, but the change is not as dramatic. Both of these have good mobile GPUs, but they're also workstation components. The drivers are very well optimized for games and could get better as time goes.

    Edit: Did not read all the other posts, and I can't access HP's site to confirm screen resolution. Other than the model numbers, I hope my advice still helps.
