Whenever I go to shutdown--start/shutdown then the "Shutdown windows" screen comes up and its defaulted to Sleep--so I have to hit the dropdown box to select shutdown. HOW can I go and change the default to give me Shutdown as the standard so I dont have to use dropdown?

Go to your control panel and open Power Options. Then there should be a link on the left side of the window that says 'Choose what the power buttons do'. Click that, and you can choose what it does.
Alternatively, you can click 'edit plan settings' and find the 'power buttons and lid' setting in there, where you can choose what the physical power button does as well. And while you're editing power settings, you might as well tweak some other things. I suggest capping how much power the cpu gets while running on battery. It helps with battery life, which isn't that great on the 9000...

Thanks for all that----but what I seem to cannot change is what I mentioned above! click start--shutdown and I want it to default to Shutdown but its defaulted to Sleep? Is there a way to change that?
