I'm In the process of successfully downgrading to XP Pro on this AMD machine
I've got all the drivers accounted for in the device manager section, took a while to do but got there in the end hooray !!

Now I want to find a way of :

    1) Getting the remote control to work with Quickplay - ie turn laptop on/off etc
    with it

I've tried HP's website & as usual its pointless !!
Any ideas or suggestions would be great, thanks ;)

There's a specific reason that HP tell users not to downgrade - they don't support any drivers for it. You're not the only one who has the RC issue, and also not the only one to fail to heed the warning. Your system was designed for Vista - instead of listening to the hype and BS that Vista sucks, you should've just gone with it and used the better versions of it with enough resources to run it. The problems with earlier versions have long since been dealt with.

What's really going to suck is when you realize you need the remote for certain DVD functions. The mouse will not operate most of the DVD menu functions, since it's assumed the user will be using a remote, just like with a standard DVD player.

Sorry - hope you got a set of Recovery Disks. If not, enjoy your new "Downgrade" as much as you can.
