Have any of you guys with the HP DV8000 models have any problems with your CD/DVD burners? Mine just doesn't seem to work. It reads CDs and DVDs flawlessly but does not seem to want to burn.

I've tried a few different programs and none of them seem to go. If I need to send it in, can I just send the burner or do I have to send the whole laptop?

    Hi John,
Thanks for the swift reply. No, I can't say I've ever upgraded firmware. I'll see if I can find the proper link on the HP website. Thanks for the tip.

[EDIT] A quick glance on the HP Troubleshooting section brings me to this page. However, there is no mention of updating the firmware:

    trying doing this:

Right click on my computer. go to hardware. device manager. expand the dvd drive box. riht click on your dvd drive. click on uninstall. let it uninstall itself. go through all of the steps. then reboot. XP will find your DVD drive again, and it should hopefully work fine after that.

if that dont work, depending on what brand drive it is, you can probably find some really sweet aftermarket firmware to upgrade to. if its LG or something, you'll have to just get factory firmware to reflash, and hope that works.

    give it a try.

Awesome, I'll give that a go. I remember it working for the first month or so, so I hope it's only a firmware or driver issue.
