I talked to a HP Rep and he said they were going to offer a bios update for merom processors and that (surprisingly) switching out the processors would NOT void the warranty i was like weird

Do you have to sent it to HP for the switching processors or can you do it without voiding the warranty?

Which models are we talking about?

im am so sure they are going to void the warranty on this, for any laptop, but not sure about PCs. I had a hard time with switching out a hard drive on my laptop, they only allow it if you have a certified HP service place swap it out for you.

i dunno which is why i thought it was weird he was like yeah its not hard to do but it would not void your warranty i was like huh? becuase i told him the entire situation like how some places you will send your notebook in and they will do the upgrade which will not void your warranty, and how some manufactors are giving updated bios for merom, he was like yeah hp will come out with the bios shortly and that wont void your warranty, maybe he was wrong i dunno. maybe he thought i was talking about core 2 duo on pc i dunno how i never refered to the desktop version but then again everytime i asked for a 7200rpm hard drive offering on the dv2000t he kept saying the 8000 does and i was like I i dont want that one like 100 times lol.

The only possibility to not void your warranty is if you buy the Core 2 Duo from HP and install it yourself. If you read the warranty carefully, any problems that occur from the installation of any third party hardware would void the warranty.

haha i went to hp.com and for like an 80-100gb internal harddrive from their "parts" dept is 610 dollars wow they really do screw you over if your not under warranty and just want to buy parts for your laptop :p everything else was extremely over priced as well like a 40gb hdd for like 200+ dollars
