So i have had the HP Envy 14 that i ordered in July configured with i-7720, 6gb ram, 320 gb HDD, and radiance display. Today something just blew while my computer was just idle and it shut down. Now the power, wifi, and logo lights are flashing. Among other manufacturer defects, including but not limited to, is a singed Gfx card, audio port switching, mDP not working, and the logo on the backwas not fit right so now i have scratches on the back side of my screen. I cant turn on the computer and it has been diagnosed that i need to send it in for repair. Now the problem is not sending it in for repair, but the fact that since i have a radiance display screen and they only offer the crappy netbook screen, i will be downgraded to that. This dosn't make any sense to me. they wont let me upgrade to a envy 17 nor give me some upgrades in compensation of the screen loss.

So How did other people get upgrade compensations? why do i have to suffer a loss of a few hundred dollars? what should i do?

PLEASE do not merge this thread with others because i specifically need listed ideas and explanations.

They may just swap out the logic board and send it back. Hard to tell though.

Do you have another notebook you can use? If so, why not wait it out a month or two to see if they restock the radiance? Maybe limp along on a cheap netbook.

The Radiance display seems to be available in the Parts store, so I guess they wouldn't do a downgrade on your laptop. At least they don't need to. They may come up with some silly excuse, though. Maybe you should contact them and get some kind of explicit warranty that they won't replace it?

    brightview?

    nah.

I mean they aren't special and are 1366x768 (which is the biggest knock I have on 'em. I like my 1600x900)

and losing a radiance would suck if you've been using one since july

I found it hard to believe they were crappy, but people who prefer Radiance have been giving that impression. I guess it's more a thing of bitterness than accuracy.

Ok so im sending it in now. if they have the radiance display, they'll replace it. But i have another question. Is there a way to make an exact copy of one HDD to another, say if i need to expand my storage space? Can i do it in such a way that once i copy, all the programs, registry, and windows settings will transfer as well? Like everything

Don't know how up to date the part store is, or whether I have the correct product code, but you can find the Radiance display in the HP PartSurfer under its alleged product code 608366-001. You can add it to cart, the label says it's "orderable, but call for availability".

Ok thank you very much. Do i install the OS on the other hard drive then install this program on the other one and then burn the image to the disk?

You install the program on the HDD you are trying to make an image of. You will need an external drive to store the HDD image onto. Then you make a rescue CD so that when your new computer comes, you can use that rescue CD to load the image off the external HDD unto the internal HDD of the new computer.

I'm glad to see this information. In the future, transferring files from one drive to another or from one computer to another will be far easier. I have tentative plans to buy at least a hybrid HDD/SSD when I can. But I won't settle for anything below 750GB since I currently have 2TB of HD space and don't want to go to 1.5TB or below.
