Happy with my HP DV2000t up until now...

Well I purchased my HP DV2000t CTO in Febuary, 2007, and I have had quite a good experience with it up until now.

The first problem was that my AC adapter/port had become very loose to the point that it was very difficult to even charge the notebook. So I then had it sent in to be repaired under warranty. A week or so later, I received the notebook back. They included a list of all of the parts that was replaced which was the motherboard, wifi adapter, etc. Those are what I remember from the top of my head, I misplaced the list, but HP should be e-mailing me the list in a day or two.

Well they basically replaced a BUNCH of parts in my notebook, but to my surprise, the AC adapter/port was not even repaired, and to add to the problem, the touchpad had seized to work either.

So I give HP a call back again and explained to them that my AC adapter/port was not repaired and that my touchpad is not working anymore. I then asked them why they replaced so many parts in my notebook that was irrelevant to what was wrong with it, but they did not give me an answer. So I sent my notebook back in to be repaired. I received my notebook back a week later; they did fix the AC adapter/port, but the touchpad is STILL not working. I even spoke with a supervisor about this and he had me restore my computer thinking that it was a driver issue. The supervisor was supposed to call me back because he did not want to wait on the phone while my computer restored, but I never did receive a call back.

I am now out of warranty, and every time I call into HP, the middle-eastern reps. would always give me all this crap about being out of warranty, and then I will have to go through the process of telling them to read back on the notes in their database regarding my notebook problems.

Well I just got off of the phone with a HP rep., and a case manager will be getting back with me in a day or so. I also found out my USB ports are not working either.

And on top of that, I JUST noticed that my notebook did not have a integrated webcam installed, which it was supposed to have since I have the HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam add-on. I only have the HP Imprint Finish and Microphone.

I really wonder what HP will do to fix all of this. Maybe this is chance for me to be able to convert over to Apple. :D

sounds really bad and if worst comes to be and hp does not repair everything you can say the issue was a ploblem before warranty was up and they did not fix it and if they refuse you have the right to take legal action

Well they are still repairing it under warranty. But every time I call into HP, the reps. always give me the run around with the warranty without even looking to see that the problem is still covered under warranty.

When I customized the notebook, there were 3 options to choose from:

1.) I believe a flat unpolished finish w/o microphone or webcam.
2.) HP Imprint finish with microphone.
3.) HP Imprint finish with microphone and webcam.

I paid for choice #3 with the microphone and webcam, but they only installed choice #2. So there is a HP logo where the webcam is suposed to be. I never noticed the webcam as I did not add it on with the intention of using it.

Well I spoke with my case manager about the webcam, she said that there is nothing that she can do since it has been a year already. So instead of a credit, she gave me a 1-year extended accidental warranty, which is perfect as I have just ran out of warranty.

Now I just received my notebook back from HP repair service for the 3rd time to find out that it is now making a loud ass whining sound, and that the right and left touchpad buttons were not installed correctly (I have to pound it really hard for it to input.).

This is really, really sad of HP. I guess it will now be my 4th time sending it back in. Damn...they should really have a lemon law for notebooks.

They do have a lemon law for notebooks. You should be entitled to a replacement. Did you even ask for one?

So you did get a 1 year accidental protection warranty.. you know what to do now *evil grin* . They definately have to do a replacement if you 'accidentaly' throw it across the wall a couple of times.

No I have not asked for a replacement yet, but I'm pretty sure they will have to now. I was tidying up some files on the laptop when all of a sudden the whole screen turns white. The keyboard did not respond, and holding the power button did not work either. I had to pop the battery out to turn it off, and now the laptop will not power on anymore.

the dv2000 did suffer from some flaws (overheating)

Lets just hope the replacement is something they have in-stock (penryn maybe)

Ok they are now replacing my notebook. But my case manager would not budge on upgrading me to a Penryn. I currently have the T5200 in my notebook, but I will be getting the T5500 in the new one.

I do get little upgrades from here to there due to the fact that many of the things are now standard.

I do have one question though, under the selection for graphics card, the 8400M GS says this under it:

    "50% OFF 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS!!
Special Edition ceramic bronze Verve Imprint Finish"

Does that mean I also get the SE bronze verve imprint? That is the one with the black touchpad as well right?

    Thanks,
    Anthony

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. I really leave the black/bronze look of the Verve...I was getting very tired of the silver look.

Ah damnit. Just spoke with a HP rep. and they said that it was a mistype. I'm waiting to get a call back on Monday from my case manager so I can request for the Verve imprint finish.

The DV2000 series is under an extended 2 year warranty because of all the problems with them. See link. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

    As far as repairs go:
#1. My DV2312 has been "in repair" for 38 days and counting, so good luck.

#2. Never expect the case managers to call back, out of 4 promised calls I got exactly zero. My cell logs all calls, so it's not possible I missed them. You're better off calling every chance you get and HOPE that you can speak with your case manager.

#3. They will drag their feet on replacing the laptop and usually give you indefinite deadlines (I know..an oxymoron) that they will take action to resolve your case.

#4. I'm in the same camp. HP has MADE me an Apple Convert. The best part, I'm using the new HP they're sending me(assuming my repair doesn't arrive Monday) to fund my conversion. Thanks HP!

Is that the whole of the DV2* series? The new DV2799 is listed as having 1 year on their website but with the possibility of extending it.

What were the causes of the heat issues with the DV2000 series?

    Thanks.
