I just got back my new Hard Drive from HP after my first one was making a grinding sound. What I would like to know is, do i just slap in the new Hard drive and fire up the Recovery Discs, or are there any precautions i must take, knowing HP and there problems.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

No, I think that will work. You may need to format the new HD as NTFS, but your recovery disc may do this.

Is the original drive still working. I would aquire a product like Acronis which will make an IMAGE of each of your partitions. This way you won't have to rebuild with the recovery discs and then reinstall/configure all of your existing software.

The recovery discs will take care of the partitioning and formatting. Now...
If you're still using the recovery discs, by that I mean you haven't really started to customize your nb, this would be the perfect time to check out some Backup apps. Like Mickey said, Acronis True Image is a stellar product, although others swear by Ghost (usually the earlier version before Symantec). In any case some of these products may or may not work for you, so trying them out now, while you can still reinstall using the RD if all else fails, is the perfect time to do it. That way, if a particular app backs up fine, but you have a problem using the apps disaster recovery boot disk (like I did with G10), you can still revert back to the RD.
If you have a good B/U app, disregard the above
