Is it possible to buy a hard case for the Envy 14, simillar to the ones available for macbooks?

Both for protection and for covering the effeminated flowery patter of the back of the screen :)

My search so far has been fruitless.

    Bump for great justice.

Extra points if the case covers the annoying HP glowing logo that can't be turned off.

Like a persistent storm cloud that hangs over my head and my head alone, apple gets all the cool add-ons and pc owners get nothing. I wouldn't mind it if a few more pc companies dropped off the face of the planet or if they all adopted some standards so we could get a decent accessory market going.

you can turn it off by disconnecting the power to the light, not necessarily an easy process though.

Why would you want to cover up the etching? Seriously, it's what sets the design apart from macs.

Hardware isn't an accessory. I'll concede the slice, I get mine in the mail soon, but it is a pricey battery solution.

But macs, iphone/ipods in general just have a wealth of accessories to pick from. I'm lucky if I can find a silicone case for my android.

So, you want him to disconnect the backlight on his screen? From what I've seen, that's what makes the logo on any lid light up, they don't have their own lights you can just disconnect.

it's trendy...they know the younger (dumber) users will buy any p.o.s. they push out, hence why there is an over abundance of accessories for nearly every product.

The E14 is for people that know what they are getting, they want a computer that can preform yet one that is aesthetically pleasing & compact.... Mac's are more targeted at photoshop addicts and movie makers (for the most part).

Macs are also for people that like a great customer support and don't mind paying a fat premium.
Oh, and for snobs too :)

I personally think they are all overpriced for what you get, but that's just an opinion :D

I agree they look trendy, however I would mind because :
    - you get a slower video card than the competition
    - you get a slower CPU than the competition
    - you pay 30% more than the competition
    - you get OSX

Even if I was making 300k a year I would not buy anything overpriced. Just like on the stock market, I am a bargain buyer and always will be.

I find the envy14 rather appealing, sturdy and "different" too.

Well, you can always go with a M3 Scotchgard solution. It's the same stuff as InvisibleShield. You just have to cut yourself. For now, I'm waiting for my Envy 14 to get here.

Great service sure but I'd take Dell Business any day of the week over Apple's service flat out.
Who else can have your laptop running the very next business day or at most maybe 2nd business day all the while at your home or work at YOUR convenience.

LOL, so true. I considered a MBP but to match the Envy I got in the 15" it would have cost OVER DOUBLE. 1100 (1600 before BCB) versus 2500-2600 I believe.

I do like the look of the MBP and the sturdy feel to them, but I prefer Windows; and even though it was my parents gift to me and I could've gotten any computer I wanted, I went with the Envy.

There are more accessories for Macs because:

It's cool to own a Mac, and cooler to own the slickest accessories for it.

Macs are targeted at an aesthetically conscious demographic, which only some PC's reach. Thus, see above.

Macs come in a few shapes and sizes, so they're easier to accessorize. PC laptop accessories (that fit directly on the computer like a hard case) would generally have to be designed to a specific model, and with so many more PC models, there's far more to design for, and each model has a smaller market for accessories than any given Macbook.

And all of the above are true to an extreme degree for iPhones, iPods, and iPads...

That etching continues to draw mixed reviews. I like it. And I'd still want that hard cover, especially for when I have my machine on the go. It protects against scratching and denting.

I'm interested in how the hard cover would work with those cooling vents at the bottom of the laptop. Maybe it would completely block it and lead to decreased cooling?

Nvm it just hit me that the cover would be in contact with the rubber feet and not block those vents.

That's pretty much a sleeve. People in this thread are searching more for something that will attach to the computer in order to protect it.
