I was trying to recover the XP boot after removing Fedora Core. However, when I put the XP CD in and restart, it said no hard drive found. The same report was generated when I put the HP recovery DVD set.
Oddly enough that I still can boot up Windows, and only then can I have access to the hard drive.
What is going on with my laptop, please?

You need to go into BIOS and disable the HDD's SATA mode in order for the XP CDs to work.
