Just wondering if there is any harm in leaving the battery out of the DV9700T when it's on AC power (other than not having a backup power source)? What I'm really wanting to know is if the open hole in the computer will end up sucking garbage like dust up in the open part since I can see a small opening where some circuitry-type stuff is showing.

I hardly need the battery and hate to drain it for no good reason.

    Thanks for the help!

No harm at all. I keep mine out all the time and only use it when i need to. Always leave 30-40% battery left if your gonna store it for a while. Block the hole if it makes you feel any better

The battery actually gets warm when its installed even if your not using it directly. This heat overtime could actually add to battery wear.

Great to know flipfire. I knew you would know this one too! :notworthy:

Thanks so much for the help.

Edit: Should I look for someone who has a dead DV9500/DV9700 battery to block the hole? I just see a lot of different openings back there and I don't know what would work best to block it.

of course if you lose power you lose the data , plus the battery give some protection against spikes in power

If you plan on leaving it out, you should follow the directions on storing your battery. It should be somewhere in the manual or you could check HP or google it. I think the procedure was to drain some of or all of the charge and store it in a cool place. I'm not sure though.

I leave the battery out when I use my notebook at home. However, I use a UPS in case a power outage hits the area.

Not something that you dare to do here in India where outages are common!
