Is your laptop worth $54 million? Raelyn Campbell of Washington, D.C., is suing Richfield-based Best Buy for that amount after it lost her laptop computer while it was in for repairs.

This was on /. last week, she is a troll. 54 million for a laptop is as bad as that chump that tried to sue the dry cleaner for millions when they lost his pants. Beyond stupid.

I heard about that. I kind of hope that she wins, even though the amount is rather extreme. BB's customer care is just that plain bad and they deserve to get hit for it.

She isn't a troll...she was lied to for months about her laptop, and BB tried to settle for an amount that they clearly would have profited from. They failed to notify her that her data was lost, so they even failed to uphold US law requiring notification when personal data is lost.

The amount is extreme, but if I was in her situation, the only way that BestBuy would listen is to ask for an extreme amount. Their offer went up from 900 to 4100 for the laptop. The main reason though is that all her personal information is on her laptop, if someone steals her identity and ruins her financial information she is screwed, not BestBuy. I would be taking the same steps as her, because my personal information should be the most important thing to them, and for them to not only keep it a secret from her, but to low-ball her on a replacement laptop amount is just ridiculous.

Umm no she wasn't a troll. Read the comments on the /. story as well as the tags. She doesn't expect to get $54 million or anything close, it was the only way to get enough attention as she had been ignored for months.
