I have experience with Dell customer service(it wasn't my laptop). They are from India and yes they have an Indian accent. Everyone I talked to say the same thing about Dell customer support. I am going to buy my first notebook soon from Dell or Hp. I am going to choose HP now because of my experience with Dell.

My issue is that of value. I originally wanted one because of the great value it offered. But with the new systems, they're MORE money than better configured machines from Lenovo. It doesn't make sense. Less features, less options, less quality, more money. Sorry HP.

No problems here! I've had two HP dv series before my current Compaq Presario V6000Z and had NO problems with any of them. I use my notebooks 8-10 hours a day with heavy use too. Of course I use common sense when using mine using a additional fan to the side and NOT OC'ing and running scandisc/defrag/virus programs on a daily basis too.

The HP I bought in 2004 has been an excellent machine, it's just getting a little tired. I plan on replacing it with an HP business notebook.

I personally do not like the new look on Pavilions. My mother has a dv9000z and it's always covered in fingerprints, and the screen doesn't feel very secure when it's closed. Not like my old zt3000. Although I can assure you it has no problems with heat or fan noise. At least, not while running XP.

I don't understand HP's reluctance to offer better graphics options and higher resolution screens. No wsxga option on a 15.4 consumer model? What's that?

I am talking about the newer models. Like Dv6000, 9000, and 2000.

I have the v6000 series which is very similar to the dv6000 and it's brand new and NO problems with it.

OK, time to clarify. HP makes good laptops. until my hard drive died 8 months into owning this notebook which i bought brand spanking new, i was happy as can be. i thought the WORLD of HP. then when i had a problem and they treated me with utter contempt and lack of any good will at all, i lost all respect.

Dont get me wrong i got my notebook working, they did eventually give me my part to fix it. i went through hell to get it and shouldnt have been forced to. once i got the part and installed it, the notebook was back to being everything it was BEFORE the incident. i LOVE my hp notebook and wouldnt trade it for anything. im STILL in love with it, especially after the mods and upgrades i did to it. BUT............

    HP service for the lose!!!!!

Today, I spent an hour on hold with HP. I kept getting told my case manager (Roy) was on the phone with another person. Then after about 1 hour, 10 minutes, I'm told he's still on the phone with someone else, and to hang on for just a few more minutes. About 10 seconds after they put me back on hold, I was disconnected.

When I called back and waited 20 minutes on hold, another case manager told me Roy wasn't even in the office. I was then told he would contact me today or tomorrow morning at the latest. Their call center is already closed today, and I highly doubt he will contact me tomorrow (he promised me that all week).

I hate phone calls to ANY reps! They're all the same... please push 1 for this, push 2 for that and when you do get through... your put on hold. All the companies do this. I've had it happen the same way in the past with DELL, TOSHIBA and others.

Actually I'm not. Pissed was 3 weeks ago when I got my notebook back the second time with the box all torn up and the laptop slipped out of its foam blocks (left edge of notebook was against the inside left cardboard wall- No padding... there were scuffs on the screen... and the notebook wasn't repaired).

I'll probably end up just selling this thing and taking a loss.

I couldn't agree more. My girlfriend's e1505 is ****e in terms of quality compared to my dv5000t. Hers is practically falling apart, and she bought it a week before I got this.

I also agree with the rest of your statements.

I've been thinking about putting a T7200 in my dv5000t and calling it a dv6000t without the nice looking casing, :)

I've had my dv6000t for over 3 months and have had NO problems at all. The build quality is excellent, there is no high pitched whine nor any type heating issue.

Sorry to rain on your parade...

    Not really!

Pleased with my dv9500 also. Have not noticed an high pitch whine others have mentioned. Fans are mostly silent except under heavy load. When I first started using it I had to check to make sure the fans were working as I did not hear them :)

I have recently had nothing but problems with my 17" HP's.
I have had a dv2000t (14.1") for about a year now and have not had a SINGLE problem with it.
On the 26th I picked up a an HP DV9339US (17", C2D, 7600, 2GB) and the day I brought it home there I encountered a very loud whirring sound (kind of like a fan hitting something type of noise, i figured gpu). I brought it in for an exchange for yet another 9339US model and after 3 days I was hit with the same issue.
I return that the next day and was going to attempt a 3rd try with another 9339US but they had none, so I went with a refund and picked up a DV9235NR in another store. I brought this one home and the screen has serious backlight issues, half of the screen is nice and bright and the other half is much more dull. Time for another refund O_O
