High pitch sound coming from laptop.

I have heard abt the problem in the previous c2d procesory and they did some diabling through bios setup, but i think HP should have learned from its mistake and resolved it in the new series.
if not then, i have to thik twice before buying it. -

Can any with a 6500t please speak up and tell us if it does have the high pitch noise or not?

When I first ran mine on battery power I heard a whine. It whined consistently every time I unplugged it. Then after a few days of ownership it stopped, though I don't know why. Perhaps the components wearing in...
There was also a BIOS update recently which may have had an effect (though the whine stopped for me long before the BIOS update came out)
The whine has to do with the low power state of the processor. Its an issue that afflicts numerous computers so I'm not sure that it's something HP can control (though I could be wrong) -
As the previous poster said, I hear the high pitched noise only when I unplug the AC power. It disappears once I plug the AC back in. I'm not sure what causes it though.

are we talking about the santa rosa model dv6500t??
-
Yes the dv6500. Yes it happens on many HP laptops. It also happens on some dell laptops (even the D610 which isn't dual core) and other brands.
Here is the best fix I've found, claims to cause the least amount of battery life reduction...

The sound has not stopped yet and it's pretty loud once I switch to battery. I haven't used my battery that much though, I've used it maybe twice so far.

No high pitched noise on mine (DV6500T). I'm running XP and Vista. I have a 12 cell battery.

Sounds like it is a hit and miss on the computer that you have for the high pitched noise
-
just disable C4 state in the BIOS
-
Mine is good too, see sig. Purchased 2/07.

I hear the high pitched sound (sometimes) on battery on my dv6500t.
Has any 6500t owner experienced this ?
