Well the title pretty much says it. :)

Has anyone loaded XP64 on their L2000(or V2000z) yet and if you did how did it go?

A co-worker of mine did briefly (L2000). Apparently there were a few driver issues, including video driver. It was too unstable so he wound up installing 64-bit Linux instead.

I just got my V2000z and have decided against installing XP64 based on his experience. Of course, as drivers become available it will be less risky.

    Thanks Skipdutch.

I had a feeling that the drivers would be a major issue especially since the L2000 and the V2000z are still so new.

Do you happen to know what version of linux 64 he used?

I plan on setting up a dual boot system with both linux and windows.

SuSE 9.3 AMD64 Bit version I think. I'm not sure if the internal Broadcom Wireless card worked for him though. I recall he said he needed to use an old PCMCIA wireless card.

ndiswrapper works under 64-bit Linux. I just did a fresh 64-bit FC4 install and ndiswrapper was easy to set up. I only got as far as scanning neighboring nets (all encrypted), not connecting to an AP, since my AP is elsewhere now but it looks like it works. ndiswrapper should work on the L2000 and other HP AMD64 notebooks too.

I'm typing this from an L2000 running the Vista Beta 1 in 64-bit mode. Getting drivers has been an issue. It comes up with generic video support, Ethernet, Firewire and presumably USB (though I haven't tried it). Then you have to find additional drivers. ATI does a good job with 64-bit graphics drivers. I managed to find a driver for the Broadcom wireless someplace. Sound is handled by Realtek's drivers. They just posted a new beta version that works fine in 64 bits as long as you turn off hardware acceleration. (With acceleration the sound is "scratchy".) I don't have drivers for the more obscure hardware.

I believe XP 64-bit may have better 64-bit driver support than this. Vista beta 1 is very sparse on driver support.

At the moment HP is not providing 64-bit drivers, though someone claims an HP staff person said they were working on support for XP 64.

Hedrick good to hear it. So how do you like vista so far?

Also have you had any luck with wireless drivers?

by the way welcome to the forums.

    Hey,
I also have an L2000, and installed linux x64 in it (Fedora 4). Almost everything is working well, except for wireless. Does anyone know where I can find a Windows 64 driver that works with wireless on this laptop? Then I can use www.linuxant.com driver loader. But the two 64 bit Broadcom drivers I found didn't work for me.

For the video drivers I got them on ATI website. I clicked on motherboard with ATI graphics and then Radeon Xpress 200 series.

For the sound, I got no sound with atiixp driver, until I clicked a button on the mixer to turn on the "external amplifier". Then it worked just fine.

I loaded vista 64-bit too. Everything works good. However the "Aero Glass" effect is not working with the ATI 64-bit drivers. Same works fine in 32-bit vista. So i went back to 32-bit for now. May be the next version of ATI drivers enable DWM (Aero Glass) for 64-bit also.
