Hi,
This thread:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware/what-is-the-maximum-RAM-that-I-can-get-for-my-dv6291ea-notbook...
got me kind of curious.
I have a DV9930US, which I think is part of the "DV9700" series, and I'd love to be able to put more than (total) 4GB of memory in it.
The "official" specs for the DV9700 series and for the DV9930US say max memory of 4GB, but that thread above seems to "hint" that it may be possible to put a 4GB DDR2 memory stick in at least one of the memory slots, so I was wondering if anyone has tried that?
I would try it myself, but the (single) 4GB DDR-6400 sticks are quite expensive now (>$100), so I was hoping that if someone had tried that, you could post here.
I am running the latest BIOS (F59, I think).
Thanks,
Jim

Hi,
I think that the answer to my question revolves around which memory controller is used. It looks like the DV9930US uses a PM965 chipset:
http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=28116
So, if I'm right, it looks like the DV9930US will be limited to 4GB max memory...
As a kind of check of this, my daughter has a DV7-1020US, which apparently uses a PM45 chipset:
http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=35515
As can seen from above, the PM45 supports 8GB max memory, which coincides with the maximum memory that HP specifies for the DV7-1020US.
So, unless someone has some other info, it looks like I'm stuck with 4GB max memory ...
Jim
Has anyone tried a (single) 4GB memory stick in DV9700 (DV9930US)?
