Has anyone unthrottled the 650m in a DV6-7000/DV7-7000 yet?

Title says it all. The 650m is honestly useless if it is clocked at 405mhz on battery.

The Sandy Bridge DV6-6000 with the 7690m XT could play Skyrim at a steady 60fps on high graphics 1080p on battery for about 3 hours.

The Ivy Bridge DV6-7000 with the 650m can play Skyrim at a fluctuating 30fps on medium graphics 1080p and the improvement while charging is honestly not worth it.

It's extremely irritating to plug in the DV6 if I want to do gaming, as the battery is going to burn out faster. I also have to stay within range of a power outlet if I want to play anything.

Has anyone modified the BIOS to turn off the throttling yet? I honestly don't even care if the H/W gets messed up. The laptop is pretty much useless to me if I have to stay close to a power outlet, might as well just play on an xbox.

Gonna need a video of you playing Skyrim@60fps using battery for 3 hours on 7690M XT because that sound like a bullcrap to me.

No way the battery could supply all the power it needed without throttling down some components.

Returned that lappy for the DV6T-7000 QE, no point in having 2 laptops. Of course, it dropped to 40 fps at times, but nothing as drastic as the 650m.

Anyways that was just background info. Stay on topic please.

From what I understand HP locks up their bios pretty tight. But yeah it does sound really unlikely that you could get three hours on battery at those settings.

I dunno why you think the battery is going to burn out faster plugged in but running the battery down all the way and then charging it is the fastest way to eat up your charge cycles.

+1, doubtful the battery on the old DV6's could do this.

I guess your GT650M doesn't kicks in when playing on battery. It used HD4000 instead.

I'm not an idiot... I ensure the 650m kicks in in all my processes. Are you sure you know anything about laptops?...

The 650m is clocked at 745mhz when charging and it is at 405mhz on battery.

    @Everyone else.
There is one person that gave a straight answer. Please stay on topic. I didn't time exactly how long I could play skyrim on battery with the old Dv6 but it was around 2-3 hours. The 7690m XT didn't require too much power to run and never overheated that much. As stated earlier, stay on topic please

Play Skyrim and use MSI Afterburner OSD to check on the Core, Memory, and GPU usage of that GT650M. Take screenshot and post it here.

Apparently you don't know much about laptop too. First batch of Asus N45SF with 90w power brick had trouble powering an i5 + GT555M and u think you can play games on a laptop with i7 + GT650M using battery at full power.

    Everybody gotta chill, yo.

I'm no techie, but is there any way you're on 'Power Saver' or 'Balanced' when you unplug your lappy?...

Okay then, i don't care about battery. But the 7690m XT cannot maintain 60fps on high no matter what resolution!

Do plugin when playing games. Not battery can provide enough power for all the stuffs that's capable of heating up to 90C LOL

Haha APU dv7 with a 9cell will play skyrim for 8 hours straight on battery, AMD ftw obviously.

If they make the iGPU in Trinity based on GCN architecture.. that will be more epic i guess. :D

Lol... My Dv6 6000 battery does not last more than 1h 30min while gaming with the HD integrated graphics... Besides I have an I3 processor...

    How could it be possible?

On the other hand, it is imposible to play with the 6770m the most of the games. It seems to be weak with the battery.

Yup I don't know much about "laptop"... Grammar mistakes aside, I don't know what you want me to screenshot, the max clock speed is 745mhz plugged in, 405mhz on battery. You honestly can't get much clearer than that.

These are not the Asus Forums, so don't know why you're bringing up the N45SF. As I said numerous times already, stop posing if you're not answering the question. There's a reason why you have 500+ posts and 5 thanks.
