The other day I was using it as normal to watch a dvd via hdmi on the tv, the battery died so went to put it on charge (as you do), but coudnt find my proper charger.

I used another HP one but the mains plug end is for US use ie 2 pins but works through an adapter/converter but still plugs into the proper HP converter with the 3 pins, then plugs into the side of the latop.

Is it possible that using the US plug athough through the converter (really just so you can use it here (UK) has blown the MB. I know the US uses 110v and we're 240, hence the converter for the other laptop (that was bought in the states).....but I though just using the plug via the converter in a UK plug would be fine.

those chargers work on both 110 and 220 either way the output is the same. test your chargers with a multimeter, please elaborate the trouble with the laptop, is it no turning on at all? try another battery.
