Hey People,
Just thought some of you might would like to know,
I bought a DV9700t About 2 weeks ago, it's supposed to arrive in the next day or two (Can't wait...),
Anyway, while i was browsing the deals yesterday (I can't stop, evan though i already bought the laptop...) and i stumbled upon the $500 off coupon.
I called HP and told them the my story and they refunded me the differance as if i had the coupon back when i bought the laptop..
Maybe some of you that just bought a pavilion recently can get some money back too.
Hope this help's someone.

thanks +rep
even though I have never bought one -
I bought my Pavilion dv9700t CTO on Feb-15. It was shipped on Feb-25 (4 days before the estimate) and it arrived on Feb-27. I have been "testing" and using it so far, I have done a clean Vista install recently, following orev's guide and, so far, I am in love with it, I love it, everything in it is just the way I'd like it to be.
When I bought, I used a coupon that gave me 25% off the full price, which turned out to be almost $500, so, I'm good.
Specs are Vista Premium, CPU T9300 2.5GHz, ultra brigthview, 2GB DDR2, 512MB Nvidia 8600M GS, radiance+FP+WC, intel pro/wireless 4965agn with BT, 160GBx2 Hitachi HDs, Blu-ray drive (no recording, just playing), high-capacity 8-cell, and some other minor stuff. Final price was $1.475 + tax (S&H = 0), and it came with a free printer, after rebate (that I haven't even opened yet). If I knew that the recovery discs I ordered are useless, I could have save $19 dollars more
I don't use my desktop anymore (P4 3.2GHz, 2GB, 1TB in HDs, 21" monitor, so on). I access my desktop via remote desktop using the notebook. I LOOOOOVE this notebook. I hope it never let me down... -
Thanks for the heads up. I just placed my order about 10 days ago and expecting mine to be shipped this week. I will be calling them first thing in the morning. Again, thank you so much for this.

Update on my order.
So I called HP about 45 minutes ago, and after talking with about 5 people we found that the latest NB0500 code didn't work. So I kept explaining that it worked last night, and then about 30 minutes into the conversation it started to work. Odd. Not sure what caused that.
Well anyway, they weren't able to apply it to my current order, and I'm not sure if that's because the price had dropped by $100 or if it was an issue with them applying the code. The long and short of it is that they canceled my order, and I replaced the order for the same exact system for $530 cheaper. Not bad for a 45 minute call, and all it costs me now is about another week before delivery.
Thanks again for the heads up. -
Hi,
I have been looking for serious discount coupons that work for this HP DV9700T custom-built series for months. They are either expired or overidden by the minor academic discount. I've gotten nowhere so I haven't ordered it.
I tried the NB0500 just now, no good. I am still stuck. Where was the $500 off discount link? I am trying to order similar specs as you but cannot afford full price.
Thanks very much! -
-
Hope this helps. -
Sac9700,
I thank you for going through the HP buy process again to prove the coupon is useful. I am sorry to say it was my own panic-error: I entered the letter "O" instead of a zero in the coupon code. It works fine, thank you so much! I am choosing my options now to order. I have been waiting a very long time for this type of discount.
This deep discount is probably a precursor to the new Penryn replacement chip in most of the notebooks. Since this is a larger scale notebook that I plan to use outside but not on the run, the Santa Rosa chip will work just fine for me!
Much obliged and appreciated,

Thank you very much for your information sir!!!! (or maam!!!!) I just called HP (the status of my order is "in production") and they told me that there was an error in the system that they were working to fix. She said that a memo was being circulated to NOT HONOR the Code!! I asked to speak to a supervisor, who told me that the code was invalid and that she would offer me a $100 credit toward my account. I initially accepted, but while she was reading the phone script related to the credit, I went to HP's website and quickly configured a DV9700t, using the coupon code, and IT WORKED!!! So, I told the lady that I could technically cancel my order and receive a full refund and reorder it, using the coupon and get a cheaper price, so why go through that hassell when you can give me at least a $200 credit? (Yeah I was being reasonable by compromising) that's when she said "OK". And she agreed to apply a $200 credit to my account.
So, thanks to you sir, I am now $200 richer (I know it could have been $350) So, BE PERSISTENT PEOPLE!!! As long as the coupon works, and you have a notebook on order, do NOT except "No" for an answer. -

At this point, you have two options:
#1 WAIT! These type of coupons and offers pop up almost every week or two weeks. There will be another offer down the road.
#2 If you NEED one now, go ahead and purchase it. Its still a good price without the discount. After ordering, call them up (or wait until they give you a confirmation call) and tell them that you forgot to enter the code. It was working TODAY. If they say "NO", ask for a supervisor. They should be able to give you something, but its NOT a guarantee. -
I placed and order for a dv2800tae and noticed that the coupon worked with it. So I called HP this morning and told them about the coupon. They told me that they would have to cancel my order and I would have to re-order it the coupon code and I'm okay with that. The moment before they tried to cancel my order, they transfer me to this guy and he said that the coupon does not work. I explained that It worked on the website and he said it was an error.
He said that the coupon does work on the site, but if someone places an order with that coupon code, In a couple hours, HP will fix the problem and those people who ordered their laptops with the coupons will get their orders cancelled. He said it would just be a waste of time because I would have to cancel my order, use the copon on another order, then HP will automatically cancel that order since the coupon is not suppose to work, then I would have to reorder it without the coupon.
I kept arguing about the fact that it work and He then transfered me back to the lady I was talking to. I explained, and explained, then she offered me a $100 credit too. So I glady accepted it.
I just wanted to know if anyone ordered the dv2800tae with the coupon code, did your orders get cancelled? -
-
Could you please explain why the recovery discs are useless?
Did they not work properly, what was the problem?
Thanks -
It doesn't appear to be there now, but then again I only looked at it briefly. -
Good luck. -

I've been waiting a couple years now to buy a notebook for a good price. I was finally going to pull the trigger today, but still missed out.
-
Eeek!-so did I. This notebook is going to have to last me a long time, so I took a couple of hours to determine the exact specs I needed and could afford after geting the coupon code working. I took too long. I'm going to fill my cart with the right specs and when a good coupon shows again, swoop on it. At least I'll be ready this time!
-
Same story for me as Outdoorwriter...code was working, so I went back and bought even more stuff...bag, printer, perioherals, the works...making sure t get it all right...only to get bait and switched at the 11th hour when I come to the end of my transaction. Very ticked off. Spoke with HP for the rest of the evening on the phone expressing my severe annoyance.
I don't care if it's a glitch or whatever on HP's end. HP should not pass on the monetary or time cost of their internal issues to their customers purchasing experiences. If this happened while on the phone with a sales rep who promised a price and the beginning of a transaction and then would only agree to finalize the sale at an inflated price, any customer would be irate. It's a very serious business and ethical breach from my standpoint...basically amounts to advertising fraud.
I'd never do something like this to one of my own customers...and if I did I wouldn't have any for long. -

The price they were "offering" me on the phone was about 20% more than the original deal I was going into for this transaction.
They actually told me I could write the CEO if I didn't like it, but that they weren't gonna honor the price, period. -
wow lucky! i nevr got such deal
-
I have been around with HP today because their site is messed up and won't allow customization on the DV9700t. I have notified their webmaster so hopefully that will be fixed soon.
In my conversations with HP, I learned that if you want to have the newer Penryn chip you need to order the processor T8300 or above. (This was news to me, anyway!)
-
-
I had cleared the cache, cleaned the disk and defragmented it a couple of times yesterday, didn't help. HP told me they were still updating their site. Anyway, works fine today!
I am definitely going to order the T8300 processor or more, that's for sure, to get the newest Penryn chip. This CPU has to last a long time, I need to be somewhat updated.
Note: They also said they could not list the type of processors that were available as options because it would take up too much room on the HP website! Yikes!

New $500 Coupon off $1399+ - NB1567
Hurry, only can be used 4500 times!! -
Thank you VERY MUCH! I was ready and waiting, I checked my cart and ordered a custom DV9700T, the coupon worked perfectly and immediately! I couldn't afford full price and I am about to lose my loaner CPU. Happy Easter!
(Rep'd you!)

How do you go around the $150 instant rebate? I can't apply the $500 discount until after the configurations with the $150 rebate included. Then when I apply the discount, the site switches the coupon but the configuration is for $1550 .
-
-
Yes, but in order for the $500 coupon to work, I have to spend $150 more than I would otherwise. I have to spend a total of $1550 instead of $1400 for the coupon to work because of the initial $150 instant rebate that is tallied in the original total before I add the $500 one.
-
I just tried it and received:
Products subtotal +$1,434.99
Rebates -$0.00
Coupons (remove) -$500.00
Order subtotal +$934.99
Shipping & Handling +$0.00
Estimated tax +$72.46
--
Recycling +$8.00
Order total $1,015.45
--
you saved 34.8% -
Yes, it is the total before the instant rebate (as it would be negated by the coupon anyway).
-
Ok, I found out it wasn't working because notebook accessory items aren't counted towards the total. I had added the 4GB HP USB Stick and Microfiber cloth as part of the $1400. Anyone else notice that HP no longer sells Recovery CDs?
-
On another note, I placed my order last Monday (with the previous coupon) and saw this morning that is has been shipped out from Shanghai. Anyone know how long that normally takes to be delivered? I'm hoping by the end of the week. -
Was anyone successful at using the $500 off coupon with the academic purchase program?

I finally got a custom HP DV9700T. While I am checking this model compared to the DV9700us (big box) I borrowed before, I have noticed at least two things, right off:
I specifically ordered this model to have Ultra Brightview, to use outside (backyard, etc). After tweaking it I have found that inside (house) it is comparable to Fujitsu/Toshiba in contrast-y-ness, which is very good because the regular HPs have the most washed out screens I have ever seen.
Outside, there is very little change, I am disappointed. If I get a photo I will add it to this post.
The original DV9700us keyboard pan made a very loud "clanging" when I hit the keys on the left side of the board. I fugured it was probably normal given the size and length of the key board. However, this is not the case with the new DV9700t. That metallic reverberation is absent.
I am having trouble verifying the components that I ordered. The Vista sytem does not allow us to "view" as much, even in device drivers. I cannot determine if the the T9300 processors are Penryn types, even tried looking for their advanced IDs.
Question: I ordered the 320 GB dual drives @ 5400 RPMs, I see Drive C has 286 GB and Drive D has 11.8. Am I viewing this right?
The screen opens up to about 120 degrees- anyone else? Seems odd to me, most notebooks open up much further...
Just checking the basic components and working order, no time to review now.
I have been on the horn with HP form 10-3 today over bizarre details. Seems they did not enter my warranty info, had my product number incorrect etc.; please check on your new HP too.
Please click the thumbnail photos to see the DV9700t taken today outside in the sun and inside the house, (the flash did not work inside). I purposely chose this website with this post for the photos so you could see a "real life" example instead of a movie frame, HP background, professional photo or animation because they have the best photo quality while typical documents/websites will not. You can decide for yourself if the "Ultra Brightview" screen really lives up it's name here.
This model runs so hot I plan to attempt undervolting after creating the recovery discs, etc. I would like to know what would be the best RAM type to keep this baby cool as possible, please (I want to R&R the orginal 2 GB for 4GB).
Please advise!Attached Files:
