Currently, i'm trying to get any time upgrade discs, but i can't run vlite. Says i am missing a dependency, but i downloaded it (took like half an hour) and it still didn't work. Did i do something wrong? Also where am i supposed to create back ups? The backups are a couple of GBs, am i supposed to put all that in a couple of cds?

My guess would be that they would go on DVDs instead of CDs. Just my 2 cents. As to your problem about the dependency, can you give us anymore specific information? There's not a whole lot I can figure out just knowing it's a dependency, Although maybe someone else can.

By cds i meant dvd's. DVD-R's to be precise. Alright for the Vlite thing, i downloaded it, ran it, and then, before i can use it, i get another window that says Dependencies.

One of them is grayed out which means i already have that feature installed, but the other one i don't. It says:

    WIM Filter
To be able to mount an image you have to install the WIM filter first. IT is a small driver, like a virtual DVD but there will not be any extra drive letters. This requires the WIM API as well (wimgapi.dll in the vLite root). It should be automatically installed after you click Install, if the WAIK is already installed.

WAIK download (its a link) and Install is given as an option.

Both lead me to microsoft website to download Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008. So i download the file, now what? Which is 1.34GB, and is an ISO File (of which i don't really know what it means.

From my understanding, according to the Clean Install sticky, using vlite will only work if the manufacturer already placed the contents of the Anytime Upgrade disc directly onto your machine. To the best of my knowledge, HP does NOT does this. Therefore, you'll have to find another means of obtaining a Vista disc in order to perform a clean install.

Really? ****, wasted a couple of hours being confused >.<. I guess I should just remove the bloatware manually instead.

Are you sure about that though? There is a Windows Anytime Upgrade thing here, but it only leads to a website that compares editions of Windows Vista.

Well, I am by no means an expert, so you may want to get a second opinion. However, having just purchased a new HP and gone through the clean install process myself, I do believe that you will need access to a Vista DVD. Or, as you stated, you could remove the bloatware manually.

There is a Windows Anytime Upgrade in System and Maintenance but it only leads to a website that compares editions of Vista.

Yes, my laptop had that as well. I suspect it's in most, if not all, versions of Vista. Much like a lot of the other pre-installed junk, that is simply a link for you to purchase and download the software. It does not necessarily mean the software is already located on your hard drive.

From other threads I've browsed, you should be fine just doing a manual uninstall of everything you don't want.

How do I PM you, wontons?

I have spent hours with HP trying to find an OEM or a WAU on my new dv-5t, but they want me to buy a new retail Vista OS if I want a Clean Install without the entire HP recovery software.

I have read through the Clean Install directions, but have no idea what steps apply to the dv-5t regarding a Vista Installation Disc (since HP does not provide a Vista disc, nor a way of burning one from the hard-drive).

I am stuck. Can anyone please offer some direction?
