Hi,
my laptop's lcd screen died 1 month after guarantee expiry. Since original LCD replacement screens are crazy expensive, I bought physically compatible lcd screen, that supports same resolution.
But I cannot get any higher resolution as 1024x768 (I've used 1400x1050 on original). I suspect there is a problem with drivers - my screen is recognized as plug and play monitor, but settings won't offer me any higher screen resolution.
Any advice how to deal with that ? This is for surely last HP laptop in our house....
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Bulek.

Well the screen you bought might be 1024x768? Resolutions are limited by hardware for LCDs. Usually different resolutions are available for screens of same dimension. Do you have a link for the place you bought the screen?

But one can never be 100% sure....
Has anyone any experience with this? Should replacement LCD work despite not being original work out of the box if it is capable of same resolution ?
Thanks in advance,

Yeah if you install a compatible screen with a different max resolution it will still work. Just not at the resolution you want it to work at. :-/

I've read somewhere that Firmware could be deliberately done in this way, so other screens would not work at higher resolutions despite the fact that they are capable of ... Does this make any sense ?
Thanks in advance,

I know HP do that for their wireless cards and various other components, but certainly not screens as far as I know.

There are ways to tell if the display is running on max resolution.
Check out the small picture call Resolution here.
The upper left have horizontal lines, the upper right have vertical lines, and the lower half have a checkerboard pattern.
Does the spacing between the lines/dots look the same all across each part of the picture (your display is 1024x768),
or does some of them appear to be closer to each other(your display is not 1024x768)?
Switch to 800x 600 and see what I mean with the irregularities.
I wouldn't be surprised if your screen actually is 1024x768.
Have replaced broken lcd screen on hp nc6320 - cannote get higher resolution than 1024x768
